As a Christian, what is the best casual phrase to say to people with whom you are not definitely sure they are Christian. With all of the controversy and different religions, what is the appropriate gesture during the Chiristian holidays (Christmas and Easter..) What does the Bible say about this? Is their any backup in the Bible that says we must do one or the other? Public schools do not allow Religion to be taught, however, is it allowed that religion be practiced in the schools uniquely by the student (allowing students such as personal prayer). So much has changed and it is difficult to keep up with what is acceptable and unacceptable.

Actually, it is very easy to find out what kids of religious expression are permitted in American public schools.

In cases involving any governmental agency, check what they say about it. In this case, it's the Department of Education:

http://www.ed.gov/policy/gen/guid/religionandschools/prayer_guidance.html

Page down to where it says "Applying the Governing Principles in Particular Contexts"

A lot of people will be surprised to discover that there is a GREAT deal of freedom in public schools for religious expression. They will be surprised because they have been told lies about it by fear-mongering televangelists who seem to have no problem with lying if it riles up the base.

If you want to know more about this, read the links I provided here; some of them are specifically about the ACLU defending relgious expression of Christians in public schools:

I'm not sure i understand your question. But if your asking:
It is right for religion to be be taught in school? than my answer is Yes, i believe that the creation of the Earth should be thought in school.
If your asking:
What is the best thing to say to a non believer? Than my answer is , find YOUR favorite bible verse. Mine is Psalms 150-151(i think, don't have my bible in front of me!) Anyway, it talks about no matter what you do, God will always love you, It's a great thing so tell someone that doesn't no that somebody can love them FOREVER.

If your asking what to say to a non believer during the Holiday: Than this is my answer, say what YOU think that holiday is for, for me, I'm REALLY big about Christmas, and the birth of Christ, so I share that. If your asking if the bible says anything about the holidays, my answer is, if God has put a celebration or has put a celebration through a prophet, than i believe we should celebrate and share it with the world.

Hope You find The Answer Your Looking For!

Well I'm a Muslim & I agree with you Christians that religion should be allowed in schools. I know of a case in Columbus, OH where the school system refused to let Muslim students in high school pray at all because it might "harm other students and the Muslim students would be wasting vaulable class time" if they prayed. It woiuld only take 15 minutes to complete 4 Rakkahs(units) of prayer. It's not like you learn anything useful in school anyway. Everyone should be allowed to pray. IF SOMEONE DOESN'T LIKE IT then they can read a book or something else.

Personal belief in any religion is guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States. If a student wishes to pray privately, the school cannot stop them. What wouldn't be allowed is forcing the entire class to pray to the same god.

Last I went to public school, personal religious practice was fine so long as it didn't interfere with the class or the rights of other students.

In other words, yeah it should be fine to wish people happy religious holidays, pray during your breaks, or a silent prayer in class. I think if you just do your best to be polite and considerate, you'll be fine.

I'm not sure what your asking. In general conversation or in passing, nothing about religion would come up, right? If you're talking about Christmas time, Happy Holidays sums it up. Most religions have something going on right around that time of year. Chrismas, Hanukah, Yule, etc. Easter is trickier because I think the only holiday around than is Passover, which is Jewish. Just don't mention Easter if you're not sure of their religion.

You could check the school handbook or with the principal's office about what is allowed in school. As far as pleasing people who may or may not be Christian, I'm not with that. Your life is a living testimony and though we are in this world we are not to be of the world and assimilate or conform to them. You have to be you as God has made you and wants you to be in every manner and speech.

If you feel the need to mention your religion to someone, then just say it: "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Hannakuh" or whatever faith you follow.
They'll probably understand that your intention is to be nice and that you are feeling festive about your own religious practices.
