Don't take sleeping pills. They can become very addicting and make the whole situation worse.

How about you have better habits. Don't worry. We all can't sleep sometimes. It happens. And yes, I think WAY TOO MUCH to the point where I can't sleep either.

Here are tips for better sleep:

Maintain a regular bed and wake time schedule, including weekends.

Establish a regular, relaxing bedtime routine such as soaking in a hot bath or hot tub and then reading a book or listening to soothing music.

Create a sleep-conducive environment that is dark, quiet, comfortable and cool.

Sleep on a comfortable mattress and pillows.

Use your bedroom only for sleep and sex. It is best to take work materials, computers and televisions out of the sleeping environment.

Finish eating at least two to three hours before your regular bedtime.

Exercise regularly. It is best to complete your workout at least a few hours before bedtime.

Avoid nicotine (e.g., cigarettes, tobacco products). Used close to bedtime, it can lead to poor sleep.

Avoid caffeine (e.g., coffee, tea, soft drinks, chocolate) close to bedtime. It can keep you awake.

Avoid alcohol close to bedtime. It can lead to disrupted sleep later in the night.

Unfortunately once you start waking up during the night, your body gets used to doing it and it becomes a constant thing. You can try over the counter sleep inducers but I recommend anti-anxiety and anti-stress herb teas. I have the same problem. I drink passion flower tea. You can buy it at any health food store. There are also other teas that might work for you such as Nighty Night, Tension Tamer and Lemon Grass. They all calm you and might do the trick for you in a healthy way without using drugs. Good luck. I know what you're going through.

The best thing to do is to work through the things on your mind. Go to a therapist or consult a trusted friend.

There are a number of OTC sleep-aids that you could try, or even Benadryl or Tylenol PM, though if your anxiety is keeping you awake, then it is best to consult a doctor.

Lunesta works great for me too, but it leaves a terrible taste in my mouth the next day. I like plain old Benadryl too - no side effects at all.
