Well- it could be that he accepted what you had to say and since you told him that you shouldnt talk- well- he isnt going to talk to you unless it is at a profession level.

Well honestly, didn't you tell him that it was better that you not talk? It sounds like you did and if that is the case, he is just honoring that decision. You can't have both. If you wanted it to remain flirty and fun as before, you never should have said that to him. He also may be feeling a little uncomfortable about the whole situation. Most men don't handle their emotions as easily as women so he probably doesn't know what to do at this point. If you want things to be as they were, they never can be exactly that again. They may however, be able to be more friendly, instead of being "professional" OUCH. Give him time and try talking to him again-no letters. Just be really honest.
First, you really need to be honest with yourself and figure out what is going on in your own head and what you truly want. Give him credit for just trying to follow through with what you asked.

One reason he may be pushing you away is because he really liked you. Guys dont handle that kind of rejection well, and when it happens it seems that the only thing they know how to do is shut down and not have contact. Really the only thing you can do is wait, because he is probly not ready to talk yet. He is in a way respecting your wishes and not talking to you, use this time to really get over that crush like you said you wanted to and allow him some needed space too.

he is thinking whoops to far... you obviously like him or you wouldn't be going out of your way to make him see that you don't... a guy won't be sitting at home on yahoo answers asking what this chick is thinking cause she wrote me this letter NO he has heeded your advice and gone back to "best not let her think i like her mode" joke around with him like you used to just don't bring up the letter or the joke about going out and you will be fine if he likes you alot he will let you know men are just to simple with "feelings"

think that maybe he does like you and he thought the joke was serious and that it wasn't a joke he might not say hi because he is hurt that you no longer like him like that just let him know that you care for him as a friend and that you don't want to lose him as a friend that will help with the hurt

He's probably just dealing with the fact his fantasies aren't going to become reality. Give him a chance to get over it and start back in like friends.

Guys usually need a little time to think things through. Give him a few days and don't nag or pester him about it.
Good luck.

Is he single? Does he like you? Why do you want to get over your crush on him? Maybe he does like you and is hurt because you no longer want to flirt with him.
Too many unknowns to give a good answer!

he probably doesnt know how to react to your letter so he is not going to react at all- as long as he is still friendly towards you then things should be fine
