First of all, remove the music. There's nothing more annoying than visiting a web site that starts blaring unwanted music at you. Try this at night when the rest of your family is already sleeping and you didn't realize how loud the volume was set on your computer. Also, when I turn off the music and navigate to another page, it comes back on! Don't force this on users. Seriously, it's a very amateurish thing to do; kind of like having an animated "Mail Me" icon with the mailbox opening and closing. It shouts, "newbie!".

I would also recommend using upper and lowercase instead of all uppercase. All uppercase is considered SHOUTING. WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING AT EVERYONE? Also, put some space between each paragraph and use a different color other than orange for the main text. It's a bit hard on my eyes.

I have visited your site, it's good. But as you are armature you made some mistakes in it. Don't provide continuous music/sound and if you provide, it should be very light and soothing.

Some flash or director animation will make it more beautiful and interesting.

The sequence can be made into a small film.
You can send your email ID so that I can send you some tips and modify your site, if you want.

I think it's a great idea that you have links to Pit rescues. If you can somehow make your site pop up when people do a Google search for info on Pits it will bring a lot of positive attention to the breed.

Advertise it everywhere
Specially high traffic site like popular web comic, or search engine(google/yahoo/etc.)
Advertise it on forum.
Advertise it on instant messenger, convince people to pass it on to their friend, and they to their.
Good luck.
