So, my understanding is, condensed milk is sweet while evaporated milk is not , and except for this, they're basically the same thing , right?

The difference between both milk......

Milk, condensed..... Whole milk has its water content reduced and is sweetened with large amounts of sugar to make a thick and syrupy consistency.
1 tsp : Cal 50; Protein 1.5; Fat 1.5; Sugar 8.0; Fibre 0; Sodium 21.

Milk, evaporated..... The water content of evaporated milk has been reduced so that is contains about double the solids of ordinary milk by volume.
1 tsp : Cal 23; Protein 1.5; Fat 1.5; Sugar 1.0; Fibre 0; Sodium 27.

Evaporated milk is milk where most of the water has been removed. Condensed milk has most of the water remover too BUT sugar is added (a lot of it). Condensed is a lot sweeter than evaporated. Never use one when it calls for the other in a recipe unless you want to mess it up. Condensed milk is also thicker. Try shaking a can of it the next time you're in the grocery store. It's so thick you won't hear it shake in the can.

Evaporated milk has had the water removed. Condensed milk has had the water removed and sweetener added. The full name is sweetened condensed milk.

I think (could be wrong, completely wrong) evaporated milk is milk powder, just add water and you got milk. Condensed milk is gooey and you use it to make nice sweet things

Evaporated milk is basically canned milk in a more concentrated form. It is used in cooking to make creamy sauces or you can have it in coffee or tea.
Condensed milk is a thick, sticky and sickly sweet "milk" which is often used in baking and can be poured over ice cream or desserts if you have a sweet tooth.
