It is important to remember when the Bible was written. The historical period from the life of moses through to the writings of John in Revelation were, by our standards, bloody, barbaric, and cruel. The Hebrews of the Old Testament witnessed several empires invade and devistate their lands. In those days, the spoils literally belonged to the victor and that including murdering men, raping the women, and taking anything of value from the conquered. In the New Testament, Judea and the near east are provinces of the Roman Empire. Let's face it, the Romans knew how to inflict pain on anyone who crossed them. They invented crucifixion. The whole point of the Bible OT and NT is to demonstrate that God is faithful in His words to us even though we (all of us) are a bunch of pillaging, raping, murdering, depraved individuals.

The bible reflected the state of the world in those days. It reflects what is going in modern days too.

Why is there so much pillaging, rape, and murder on the news?

Gee, do you think its there to justify Pillaging Rape and murder.

Think about who decided to put the bible together.

A roman emperor. The ruler of a bunch of thugs who did all of the things that you mentioned.

What . . . .

are you talking about?

Examples? Source? Proof? And the rapes that are mentioned, uhm, so what? I mean, honestly. What person committed rape and murder in the Bible, and wasn't punished for it? So now it's wrong to record the wrongdoings of others? A book can't record wronging?

Better stop reading the newspaper then.

Ohhhhhhh, or is it one of those "everybody knows" or "I had a teacher who taught me" things.

Because there are human beings in it. The Bible reveals the sinfulness of human nature and its results.

Sin is basically a principle. It is the principle of selfishness. We see its influence and effects in our world today.

It also reveals God's plan addressing the problem of sin and how He dealt with it throughout various periods in history.

The good news is that sin is not eternal and a conlusion to this problem is on the horizon for our world.

A beautiful future beyond this present world of sin is promised to those who cooperate with God in dealing with the problem of sin or selfishness in their own lives.

Because it is telling the unpolished truth. That's the way humanity is, then and now. The Bible also explains why there is so much evil in the world and teaches that it is not God's way.
