It is NOT an urban legend! The Ronald McDonald House Pop Tab Collection Program was established in 1987 by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Ronald McDonald House community.
To date, more than 400 million pop tabs have been collected, generating more than $4 million
If you are in the US, they usually have tab collection boxes at every McDonalds.

collecting soda pull tabs and donating them FOR DIALYSIS is an urban legend.
The Ronald McDonald House Pop Tab Collection Program seem to be a valid and only place to donate to.

The garbage can.
The cost of handling such small quantities of metal make recycling impractical.
The waste of gasoline taking them anywhere more than compensates any recylcing value.
I suppose you could stuff them into an empty soda can and recyle that. I have no idea whether thats a good or bad proposition for the recycler, but i doubt they'll return it to you ... lol.

Donate them to the Shriners organization. You can look them up online and I'm sure they have many places to drop them off. They help sick children.
