She licks the area at the base of her tail and has hair missing there. At first I thought the kids had shaved her hair, being curious with daddy's beard trimmer. That isn't the case. The cat isn't scratching at this area, just licking it. What could be the cause of it? The other cat I have is fine.

Sounds like FAD - Flea Allergy Dermatitis. Cats are meticulous groomers and you may not find fleas. Take her to the vet for a proper dx. If so, she will need to have monthly flea preventative and probably treated for tapeworms, as ingesting fleas is the #1 way cats gets tapeworms (also transmitted by eating rodents).

This may be a hot spot..........loss of hair and raw from the licking? Take your pet to a vet, medication is needed

i agree with that other person;and say;it sounds like a hot spot and they can drive your cat nuts.if you don;t get her to the vet ;it can get a lot worse.my dog had a hotspot and licked and chewed and it was red raw;and painful....get kitty checked at the vet ;so she can get better soon...LOL

She may have worms.....you can use any cat wormer to take care of that.Mine always liked the carmel flavored liquid they sell at Wal-Mart.
If that doesn't fix the problem....you may have to take her to the Vet.Just remember that if you deworm one of your cats....you should do the others at the same time.
