Not too many mouthwashes are antiseptic. Personally, I don't like Listerine. It literally burns my mouth. The only time I ever used it was when I pierced my tongue, to prevent infection. I prefer a milder mouthwash. But I do think it's the antiseptic reason why people mention that specific brand over others.

Corsodyl is a specially formulated medicated mouthwash that can be used as an aid to help treat and prevent gingivitis, or gum disease.
Corsodyl has a dual action approach:
Its antibacterial ingredient attacks and helps to kill the plaque bacteria that are causing your gums irritation.
It creates a protective layer over your teeth and gums for up to 12 hours, thus helping to prevent any new plaque from forming
Corsodyl can be used at all stages of gingivitis.
Alongside flossing and brushing, a short 5-7 day course of Corsodyl can help kick start your recovery from the early signs of gingivitis.
It is available from your local dentist, or boots, tesco, asda, and other leading chemist.
Cost around £3.99 - (£1.33 per 100 ml)
I hope that answers your question as an alternative to Listerine

People suggest Listerine because it has ingredients that the CHEAP ones don't! Don't be cheap buy the good stuff. You're only given one set of teeth. Plus it also reduces the bacterial levels in the mouth which are proven to cause gingivitis and periodontal disease. Plus no one wants to smell bad breath! I'm a hygienist and always have my patients rinse with Listerine before I go into their mouth.

Listerine has just been advertised more than the other mouthwashes. Rather like Xerox has become synonimous with copying or photocopying.

the reason is Listerine contains a good anti bacterial/ anti septic agent that's gentle enough to use daily it is very good
Corsodyl is not designed to be used for long periods of time if you read the back i think off the top of my head its 4 weeks it can also stain your teeth badly as it can react with agents in toothpastes
people probably also suggest Listerine because they are not dentists and if people need advise that urgently that's who they should see !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have tried several other brands & Listerine works for me. I have also tried the BLANX one (more expensive) & found that it wasn't as effective as Listerine.
I think it's personal choice really. I like the fact that it keeps my breath tasting/smelling fresh & my mouth feels so much cleaner after using.
I bougt some on Tuesday from Boots (t's on special offer with £1.50 off) now at £2.49 - I think it's wel worth it!

most people suggest listerine because listerine has monopolized the mouthwash biz. it's like calling toothpaste colgate, crayons crayola, napkins kleenex and so on.
and it's the most popular
