What are manly traits?

I wish people would not associate "manly" so much with "macho" because the two are sooo different. Manliness is about practising the best of human qualities like honesty, reliability, decency, ethicality as they should rightflully apply to that person's daily life as a man In the same way, those characteristics applicable to the female of the species would make her eligible to be called "womanly".
A "manly" man, for example, would honestly and reliably live up to the full expections of behaviour, for a person who had helped bring a new child into the world. A "macho" man would be more likely to turn his back and ride off into the sunset. Manliness is being a fully responsible human being, living up to expectations, honoring commitments, and confronting obligations, standing tall, and reflecting all these qualities in the course of all his daily activities, in the body of a man.
Neither does "manly" have anything to do with any particular type of physical appearance. A cripple in a wheelchair qualifies to be described as "manly" when, despite his handicaps, he never quits in his determination to continue to be a contributor in life to the very best of his abilities, rather than sit there, bemoaning his misfortune, and allowing others to wait on him.
I've known the "manly" and I have met the "macho", and I know which kind of human being I most admire.

A guy that is sensative and not a ego maniac. Someone who treats a lady like a lady - but still has very manly traits. NOT a GIRLIE MAN.

Confidence in the way he carries himself, his dress, his style. Intelligence in his conversation. A man that can laugh at himself, a man that is willing to speak about himself.
The gentleman I am currently dating has all of these qualities but the one thing that caught my attention in the beginning......his ability to make me feel ultra feminine in his company. Impeccable manners and very attentive. Now that is a "manly man"......a sexy man.

To me, a manly man is someone who would protect the girl he loves and care for her. It doesn't matter if he is strong, and doesn't matter if he looks super manly. It is all about the way he acts.

Someone who is not a feminized liberal and stands for decent, noble causes. A man who has a strong character, and does not use women.
