Im looking to have my teeth whitened by Laser Surgery, but am a little bit scared because I hear it makes your teeth thin and stripps the enamel from your teeth, is this true and would anybody recommend this procedure? How often do you have to have it done?

I had mine done (not by laser) by chemical from the dentist. It flipping hurts, the chemical solution makes it feel like your teeth have cracked.
The result was alright but doesn't last.
I can't see how laser treatment would make your teeth thin, best bet is to ask your regular dentist about it.

I had Zoom whitening done. I was happy with the results, but they didn't tell me I would have to follow-up with strips or trays after it to maintain the results. Things I didn't like about it: I have a tooth that is slightly discolored because of trauma from a car accident. That would only whiten to a point and then no more. Also, they only did the visible teeth, not the full set. It was painful too. The laser blows the pores open on the teeth (I didn't know teeth had pores before this), and I could hear them pop open. It was accompanied by a sharp pain, but not unbearable. They sent me home with Vicodin that I stayed on for the next day. And I couldn't eat any food with color for 2 days until the teeth closed back up. I never heard anything about stripping enamel with the Zoom system. I recently bought a box of the Crest Whitestrips PROFESSIONAL- not the kind you can buy at Wal-Mart. These come from the dentist, have a stronger active ingredient than the wal-mart kind, and sell for about $100 a box. You can find them cheaper on the internet. They are longer and cover the whole bite and come with a 10 week supply. I haven't started them yet, but my aunt recently tried them and was very happy with the results. This is a considerably cheaper alternative to Zoom or other laser procedures. Have you talked to your dentist about the possibility of doing trays? I think the strips would be simpler and priced fairly comparably to trays. Hope this gives you something to think about.

The tooth is very poures and discoloration can be cause by a plethera of reasons; build up of deposits left by dark colored food, drink, smoking, medication, time/age, ect. When bleaching your teeth you are basically cleaning out the pores of you teeth which can cause them to be sensitive. With proper moderation the sensitivity will subside in a short period of time. You can also use toothpaste for sensitive teeth to help.

If you have not tried the over the counter whitening strips yet, I would suggest to try them first. This is see how your teeth will respond to the process in general. The strips work very well and are much less expensive then the in office treatments. If your teeth do not lighten up much with the strips then the possiblity the laser treatment making your teeth pearly white is not very good.

As with most anything you can over do the bleaching. The best way I can explain it is, depending on your tooth stucture, too much bleaching over a period of time can leave the teeth looking a bit transparent, kind of like a porceline dish. It can also leave your teeth overly sensitive to hot and cold. This can be very painful.

If you have already tried the (OTC) methods or bleaching trays from your dentist, and followed the process closely, and are still not satisfied with your results, talk with your dentist about the over all natural condition of your teeth and what kind of results you should expect from laser treatment. The natural color of teeth is not always pearly white. Some teeth are actually gray or brownish and all the bleaching in the world will not turn them white.

Hope this help.

And yes I do bleach my teeth. I have used both OTC and trays. It made a huge difference. My teeth are really nice, but they are not Hollywood white.

Happy New Year

Teeth whitening can make your teeth sensitive to heat and cold. I didn't do it for that reason and it was the dentist (a really good and famous one) that warned me about that.

Commercial tooth whiteners use hydrogen peroxide and
are expensive and inconvenient. A cheap and natural tooth whitening home remedy uses few strawberries but certain precautions have to be taken.I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/ep7yg

I've had better luck with the over the counter stuff at the stores than I did at the dentist. They lasted longer and didn't hurt. Try the Crest strips.
