I just brought my kitten home the day before yesterday. He's six months old. I've noticed that sometimes randomly when I approach my cat, he will try to scratch me. Why does he do this?

I spent all day yesterday with my cat. Do cats start scratching if you given them too much attention?

More than likely the little guy is just playing.
Kittens of that age are full of energy.

When he does it, stop...don't try to pull your hand or arm away, snap your fingers and yell NO as loud as you can.
That's what are Vet told us to do when one of our cats was doing the same thing...it worked like a charm.

But like I said at that age I doubt he's doing it to be mean he's probably just playing.
Also if he's not yet been neutered he really should be...that also will help with aggressive behaviour.

Good luck with your new kitten.

He's six months old - that's the feline equivalent of the "terrible two's"!! He's in a very destructive phase right now, but he'll grow out of it. You can always tell when someone has a six month old kitten at home just by looking at their shredded arms.

He may just be playing. But if it really seems like it is directed at you in a negative way. Make sure that you are not to loud and rough with him. My kittens have always hated flip flops because the sound scares them. Just make sure you are quiet and gentle with them.

sounds crazy, but sometimes that is the way they show affection and playfullness. trim his claws to prevent a painful scratch.

Clip those nails. Be careful but you can do it.
