My mom has Cirrhosis and I know it's irreversible. I also know they can stop it from getting any worse. Someone told me they can cut the bad part off of the liver and she can live on half of a liver. This doesn't sound right but I was just wondering if it's true. Every time I call the Medical Center (where she's at about 100 miles away from home) nobody seems to know what's going on. She is having a biopsy today and I called to see what time it is and her nurse didn't even know when.

Cirrhosis is fibrosis that progresses to produce diffuse disorganization of normal hepatic structure, characterized by regenerative nodules surrounded by dense fibrotic tissue. Symptoms may not develop for years and are often nonspecific, such as anorexia, fatigue, and weight loss. Late manifestations include portal hypertension, ascites, and liver failure. Diagnosis requires liver biopsy. Treatment generally is supportive.
