OK, Here goes: The ACLU is concerned with protecting the Constitutional rights of EVERYONE, from knucklehead liberals to right-wing religious fruitcakes. What you're obviously upset about is they won't take cases which conflict with the Constitution, meaning any case which endangers the separation of church and state, or which favors one religion over all others. That's not "oppression," that's the rule of law. The ACLU has also defended the American Nazi Party and the KKK, on freedom of speech issues. They would defend you if you had a legitimate case; obviously, you didn't . And no, they don't get any tax money. And liberals pay taxes, too, by the way; but since most liberals work for a living rather than living off investments and the overseas sweat shops, they pay more taxes than the rich. When are you folks going to understand the ACLU is there for everyone? Maybe if you didn't try to use them to forward a religious agenda, you might get better results. I want them there to protect me from religious oppression.

The ACLU isn't supported by tax dollars.

Like the persistent falsehood that purports that kids cant pray at school
the claimed tax support for the ACLU
is also none sense.
Stop trying to force a Bible based Theocracy on America and much of
the ACLU effort would not be needed.

1. There are NO government "subsidies" to the ACLU. That's garbage. When the ACLU lawyers ( who are largely lawyers with a private practice who do side work for the ACLU) wins a case against a government agency, the government agency pays the costs, and sometimes punitive awards. Who do you think SHOULD pay the costs? The person bringing suit, i.e. the injured party?

2. For those of you who have drunk the koolaid, please read these links:

*** There are more, but this is enough to dispell the FALSE notion that the ACLU is anti-Christian.

But of course, for those of you who want to believe that the ACLU is anti-Christian because they don't defend ONLY the religious freedoms of Christians, the TRUTH won't make any difference.

Which won't surprise any of the rest of us.

You're very vague. How were you oppressed? Were your civil liberties infringed?
Also, how do your tax dollars support the ACLU?

2007-01-04 09:50:14 · answer #6 · answered by ThePeter 4 · 1 0

If the ACLU receives any tax money, which it doesn't, then it is only because they are a nonprofit organization, and every other such organization receives the same treatment.

Your question is loaded with rhetoric and inaccuracies.

In what way do your tax dollars support the ACLU?

2007-01-04 09:14:08 · answer #8 · answered by Samurai Jack 6 · 4 1

Have you approached the ACLU with the story of your being "opressed?" (sic)

Have you asked the ACLU for any help?

Have you taken any action to acquaint the ACLU with the fact of your existence, or do you think that the ACLU should somehow intuit your problem and come rushing to your assistance?

Exactly. You remember the Hezbollah/Israel conflict? They called Hezbollah a terrorist state within a state.Same goes for the ACLU.They are a terrorist state within the United States. They are nobodies friend. They will stab in the back the very people they say they are helping.
Organizations such as the ACLU,that say no to Jesus guy that comes to this forum from time to time, and the Bright Society, which Richard Dawkins is a member of all have one thing in common. They all try to promote and spread bigotry. They spread hatred towards people who don't believe the same way they do.Starting to sound a lot like a terrorist cell to me.They all are terrorists, and should be held accountable.

The best way to stop the ACLU is to lobby against them through governmental channels.Do it fair and square, and do it legally. That way you keep the accusers away.

can you provide an example of the ACLU not supporting a specific view that you felt warranted their attention? Otherwise your post is more of a rant than the start of a useful dialogue.
