unfortunatly the world is sexist still towards women. And as its getting better towards them they still have little nicks in the system. I do belive that it also has alot to do with money. for some reason women sports do not bring in as much money as mens. Im guessing because of men thinking "oh its womens, it must be girly and uncool cause im a big strong man" kinda thing. Which is totally untrue. Im sure though if you want to join in on the MMA hype and your a female you could get lucky and get into one of the bigger womens division and even make TV. personally id love to watch a womens UFC division.

There are no women in the "UFC" because there is no division provided for them by the UFC - this can be for no other reason that the the "UFC's" making.

There are however female MMA fighters that compete around the world on smaller shows.

There is a specific show - Hook nShoot - that has an all female dvd.

Women do do MMA just not under the banner of UFC

I think if they just put two of the ringcard girls in the ring against each other it would be fun, even if they DIDN'T know anything about fighting! I'D watch it!

But seriously though, I believe they DID have a few women matches back in the EARLY days of the UFC. One of the competitors was a woman that worked out with Don Frye or Dan "The Beast" Severn (I forget which). In any event, she was the ONLY female they'd put in the ring that really knew anything about MMA, and she easily won any fight they'd line up for her. Her competition always seemed to be women they'd find down at the local pub who looked like they had been in more than one barfight in their lifetime. But in the ring, they were worthless.

Truthfully, I'd LOVE to see a good women's match where each contestant actually KNEW what they were doing in the UFC ring. I doubt it's going to happen anytime soon though.

Because there is no women's division in UFC. In smaller, local MMA organizations, particularly Rage in the Cage, there are women's divisions (and contrary to popular belief, the women can be every bit as brutal as the men).

I'd like to know why so many male members are making comments that women aren't capable of doing what men do in MMA. Why limit a person so much simply because of the limitations societal beliefs place on them?

Because the world is still generally sexist and feels a need to protect women from such brutal sports.

We will see more female boxing and wrestling before UFC begins a women's division.

i agree that the money value of a female ufc may be rather small, but a female division would be pretty hot though. the audience of the ufc is mostly young to middle aged men, so i don't know how well female matches would be received by that audience.

What are you talking about Joseph B? Plenty of good female fighters out there. You saying Debbie Purcell can't strike? What about Olga Bakalopoulos? Or Mayra Conde? or Erin Toughill. Come on man plenty of good female fighters out there. Can some of the fights be boring? Sure they can, but I know I've seen plenty of male fights be just as boring.

That would be because MMA is EXTREMELY brutal. I don't know of any woman who would be willing to fight in the same way that the UFC fighters do.

It's due to money issues, prob'ly as it gains more momentum then we may see (a) women's division. but it's mainly about money, and how to get it organized for women competitors.

I read an article not too long ago which confirmed my suspicions about this, but I could be just spitballin' here.

because there is little to no money in it. Look at womens boxing, or WNBA or any other womens sport... when there is money there will be a show.
