To lose weight permanently, you require a total change of attitude towards food. For weight lose, the factors are 90% food and 10% exercises. (For weight maintain and health: 50% -50%) So, why not approach this problem by starting both?
Forming a healthy eating habit is a life changing experience, so congratulation on taking the first step!
We are talking about 200 lbs here, it's worth it to see a doctor or a dietitian. I'd suggest you read a book about food and its impact to our body: "10 Steps to healthy eating" by Leslie Beck (available in Amazon.ca) is a very good book to start. It makes you be aware of the nutrient in the basic and common food we eat everyday. It's also helpful to learn about GI (glycemic index, which is mentioned in the book as well). It's better then counting calories.
The higher the GI value of the food, the easier your blood sugar would shoot up after consuming the food, and thus easier for it to be converted to fat, rather then something more useful.
Out with anything that has 1. trans fat, 2. white/refine/enriched flour, 3. sugar as the top ingredients in the ingredients list.
In with fibre, fibre and fibre.
Good Luck, tell your daughter to give herself time to lose this weight, it's not healthy to lose weight too rapidly.

There are no secrets to losing weight. It's a very simple equation of calories in vs. calories out. I believe that one can lose weight on 6,000 calorie all twinkie diet if they are willing to work of 6,005 calories per day. The problem is that one would feel awful eating all of that sugar and fat, and wouldn't feel well enough to work out.
Here's the ticket: 1) eat sensibly and frequently. five or six small meals per day/ lots of veggies and lean protein. Stay away from sugars, starches, fat, processed foods, and items overloaded by sodium. 2) Most important of all. EXERCISE!!! There is no other way to lose weight. One other tidbit of advice; don't worry about a number. The way this works best is to make real lifestyle changes. Everyone wants to look like an athlete while acting like a slug. YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS! If you want to look like an athlete, you have to act like an athlete.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.
The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.
Get started today!

The worst foods to eat are sugars and refined carbs like white bread and even pasta isnt the best. Fruit juices are high in sugar, so eat whole fruit, and dont use artificial sweetners, although they have no calories, they have been shown in studies to put on weight. My theory is that they fool the body into storing fat. Have a look at the no grain diet

she should eat nothing but, grilled meat or chicken
and lots of vegtables and fruit, and diet bread, yogurt
The most important thing about losing weight is patience
should not hurry too much so she wouldnt get stretch marks, as slow as she is losing her extra pounds - as she will avoid having these stretch marks
should eat some fat from time to time!so she wouldnt feel that she's in needness of that kind of sweets or whatever.
let her choose a day in a week to be a free day, she can eat whatever she wants in this day (not over dosing fat :) ))
thanks

two hundred pounds??
It sounds like a real serious problem.
She should throw out all the junk food, food high in calories, fat and oil.
She should consume more vegie and fruit based food.
Eat white meat instead of red meat and also fish.
More importantly, ask her to exercise and be more active.
It's time for her to wake up and stop being a couch potato!!

gosh mom you should know it is obvious to throw out all snacks and eat fruits and veggies and drink plenty of water. Eat your meals in small portions and eat what is good for you. Limit your carbs like no more than 50 at meals and 20 for a snack in between.

She needs to see the following professionals in this order: physician, nutritionist, personal trainer. If she is that overweight, she will be making some incredible life changes and will need to do more than worry about food.
