I agree with you, many people have many misconceptions about the whole idea.
They have nothing better to say that's why they make propaganda up!!

I guess that you are living a very sheltered life to assume such a thing.
Throughout history and the world people have been 'forced' into a religion through persuction, rejection from society, death, torture. Think of the second world war, jews where killed and often forced to deny their beliefs. Tibetans have been killed for being passive budhists by the chinese. Waaaaay back christians killed off the celts and pagans throughout europe becuase their beliefs posed as a threat the the rise of christianity. Like many non-western cultures/societies, many muslim countries frown upon and often persecute other non-muslims for not having the same beliefs.
Religion has been the greatest cause for war on earth! yet your being so niave that your suggesting that everyone has a right to express their personal beliefs?!
I think your mistake is that you obviously come from a very privaleged life in a western country where we are free to express our opinions and beliefs

Hi
Actually that is not true, people are born into religion usually and it depends on geographic location which usually determines your religion. I know of many women who marry and are forced to convert into what their husband is. Sometimes it is not a choice and alot of them are women of other faiths who marry Muslims, catholics, and so on. Sometimes people convert just to keep the peace in their family.

Baptism means dedication of one's life to God...but before you do that you have to learn about God. There are religions who baptizes babies, baptizes interested people after reading a few bible pages to them but baptism is a decision of a person not of the members of a religion--
I think muslims are born into their religion, one way they populate their religion is by having many kids....visit here in Austria and youll rarely see a Muslim family with less than 3 kids.

yes noone is forced to convert but bringing someone up in a religion means they will probably accept it as they are told it is truth from a young age. they need the freedom to question things. and missionaries knock on peoples doors and rub their religion in peoples faces

Many people are told about their parents chosen god long before a child has any idea the difference between god and a rock....they are told about this almost every day.
so it is kind of hard wired into your mind, even if you rebel in your teens or even later, many when faced with death or sever loss will "go back"
so in a way it is forced upon you.
many have not the wit to see they have been lied to, so they continue to buy it.

most people in religion are in it because it is cultural and simply the family choice ...
yes many people decide to leave , but those who stay do so because it is often all they know
this doesnt mean they cannot think for themself at all though ... but when you know something because it has been passed down .. then that will appear the truth to you , and no one turns away from what they know as the truth
only those who have studied other truths will do so

And what about the children who can't think for themselves? Do Muslim parents not raise their children to be Muslims? That, also, is conversion.

I would say that threats of eternal punishment is a method of force. That would make both Christianity and Islam religions of forced conversion. At this point Christianity is far ahead in the number of atrocities committed in imposing their religion on others, but Islam is rapidly gaining ground!

yeah, it is a personal decision at gun point. You are making these comments based on emotion. Millions have been converted at the edge of the sword. Check out www.persecution.org this site will show you what other so called religions of peace do to those who refuse to submit. Speaking of submit, ISLAM MEANS SUBMISSION

Most people are born into their religion, however once they are old enough to make their own decisions then they are free to choose. In some countries people are made to conform to certain religions, here in America we have the freedom to choose and worship as we please. America was founded on religious freedom.
