I think tattoo words in another language is so cool, especially if you have someone in your family or circle of friends that speaks another langage or is from a different country than your from. Then you can get the language that you actually relate to. Ie; I am from canada and my uncle met his wife who is from thailand. i was thinking of getting the tattoo for music in thai. Here is the link that tells you anyword in thai
http://www.thai-language.com/dict/
Even if thai isnt what you want, you can still get an idea of what it looks like.
Hope i helped you in some way, good luck with it all

If the message in the tattoo is important, as you say, then it must be understandable to viewers, not just you. So it ought to be in an understandable lingo. In UK that's English. There's no sensible reason for a foreign language, especially since you can't so easily alter it after you realise the mistake. Out-of-date languages (Latin ancient Greek etc) are also best well-avoided therefore. I do not have any tattoos anywhere in any form or language, so who am I to talk! Written languages of the world include some quite beautiful-looking scripts. Google 'em. Thai, Gujerati, Mandarin, for examples. Start by clicking South Korea below. Happy hunting!

Have it done in braille.

Another thought, if you like big tattoos, have it done in american sign language, a series of hands positioning the different letters, or maybe the whole word.

GREEK!
The letters are different from our Latin letters, which is cool, I think. Passion in Greek is pathos, πάθος. Passion is originally a Greek word!
Lots of people have Chinese/Japanese tattoos, go for something unique!

Personally, i would have it done in Italian ( passione), and have the writing in Old romantic styling. Long , curvy lettering, shaded black n grey. That would look ace!!!
