i usually feed my kitten purina, and lastnight i ran out of food so i had to feed him some 9-lives samples i had. Now he's been getting kinda "pudgy". Im more interested in getting food from an actual pet store thats going to make him healthier. Can someone suggest a brand that id be able to get at like petco, petsmart etc?

I believe some PetCo's carry Natural Balance. That is an excellent food. Look on the ingredient list for a meat protein source as the first or first several ingredients. For dry food, if it's listed as "meal" (such as chicken meal) that's even better because that means the meat was weighed after it was cooked and dried. Look for foods with no corn or wheat for very little of one or the other. Corn and wheat provide no nutritional value for cats and some are allergic. Most food will have some sort of grain, such as rice. Corn and wheat are generally used as cheap fillers. Top quality foods are generally more expensive, but you usually only feed 1/2 the amount to your cat for them to get the same nutrition (or even better) than the cheaper foods because they have more meat and less fillers.

Other great brands to try are Innova and Felidae. And there are even more good brands out there.

If you feed your kitty wet food, Meow Mix now offers wet foods with no animal by products or corn fillers.

Hope this helps!

It could just be that he has worms, all dogs and cats are born with them, just take him to the vet , or trying giving him dewormer from the pet store but talk to a rep there for more info on deworming.
