One of the symptoms of bulimia is swollen glands which causes the "chipmunk cheek" effect, in essence. Sometimes they can be seen between the jaw and under the ear which makes the face look rounder. Is this a permanent look or will it go away after some time?

Repeated vomiting causes enlargement of the salivary glands giving someone suffering from bulimia a "chipmunk cheek" appearance. This repeated vomiting causes swelling in the glands. The swelling with go down when the purging stops! It will take a few days though...it is not instantaneous. Please note, that if purging begins again after the swelling has subsided, the chipmunk cheeks will return.
