Saddam could have set up a direct debit scheme for them with say 7% interest over 60 months to pay it back instead of invading them i suppose. and if they dont pay it back or they default then discuss war. i have always been one for going down the correct channels first.

I suspect that Saddam went into Kuwait to steal the oil resources to help him pay back the huge debts Iraq had built up after its 1980's war with Iran.
Unfortunately for him the UK and USA took umbridge and kicked him out.

If you mean "How could he ever have retrieved money owed to him by Kuwait for underground wells under the border which should have been shared out and for purchases Kuwait made but never paid for" - then you ask A VERY GOOD QUESTION which I have no answer to (other than maybe go via the UN and ignore all the asshole veto powers - to hell with veto powers, they are antidemocratic - it's okay if three out of five can block stuff but not one out of five that is ridiculous and makes them immune from prosecution when they are evil themselves as we have seen in Chechnya and in Waco, Mururoa and Wounded Knee, Northern Ireland and Tibet)!
That's me on my soap box, going nuts and completely coming off the topic, sorry.

that's just a smoke screen they actually went into Kuwait because they were aligned with the us and they wanted to take the oil fields, that is true but you must factor end the relationship that they had establish to get the protection from us and they had pretty much been enemies of Iraq for along time and when they allowed us house are military there we promise them that we would and could protect them and their Oil fileds.

Wrong.
Iraq owed Kuwait (and many other countries) vast amounts of money that they borrowed during their war with Iran. Saddam demanded that Kuwait forgive his debt and Kuwait refused.
Saddam then thought that by invading Kuwait - he could write of a significant portion of his debt and use the Kuwait treasury to pay off his remain debts.

When Saddam was thinking of war.He asked the USA embassador, what would be america's position. The lady ambassador informed him(saddam)the USA had no interest in the matter.Unfortunately he should have asked Maggie Thatcher it was the iron lady who stood beside Ronald Reagan and said "get out or we'll through you out"

SH considered Kuwait to be a "rogue province" of Iraq. At least that was his "official" declaration. There's little doubt that he wanted Kuwaiti oil and seaport resources.
