my colleague literrally just got told £50, but he rang around and got it for £30, so dont get conned into paying £50

The MAXIMUM they can charge for a class 4 (IV) car is £50.35.
If a garage is offering an MoT for a lot less, have a think where they will be making up the money from. It's almost a guaranteed fail.
If a garage is charging the full price they will normally do the job properly.

Ask around as the price differs between 35 - 50 GBP. Also ask if they follow up with a free MOT test if it fails. Some do, if you have the necessary repairs done with them.

Think it's roughly £50 if it passes. If it fails, depends on what work needs to be done to get it through the MOT, but could be hundreds.
