It depends on the resturaunt and what their house wine is. There's too much variation among resturaunts to be able to answer this. But it's usually between half the retail price of the bottle up to almost the full price of the bottle- what you could buy it for at your local wine store. It's a huge markup. I usually spend about roughly $6 to $8 per glass for what I know to be a $12 bottle of wine.

How long is a piece of string? Depends on the wine, depends on the restaurant. It varies enormously but you can bet your bottom dollar that any wine will cost loads more in a restaurant than if you buy the exact same wine to drink at home. And the per glass price always works out more expensive too so buy the bottle and if you don't finish it all at the restaurant you can take it home with you.

wine prices in restuarants are horribly over priced. Case in point. I was at a nice steak house in Indianapolis over the holidays. Ordered a bottle of the Raymond Vineyard Generations Cab Sauv 2001 for $165 per bottle. At the winery this same exact bottle sells for only $90.
You are better off bringing your own bottle and paying whatever corkage fee the restuarant will charge to open and serve. Check with the restuarant first.
Wines by the glass are an even bigger rip-off.

All restaurants are different but I would say an average of between £10-£12. A glass is usually £3-£4.

It is about three time what you would pay for it in the Supermarkets, and a glass is about £2 to £4 depending where you go.
Thus if you want to drink out, expect to pay £7 for the cheap plonk, £20 for a drinkable wine, and more if the place feels it can get away with it.

In most fairly nice £25 to £40 a head London restaurants, a bottle of house wine is around £10 - £18 with a glass being around £5.00.
If you know which one you are going to, check out their website as they will likely have their full menu and prices online!

How long is a piece of string?!
It all depends on the restaurant doesnt it! A house bottle at The Ivy is going to be a great deal more than the India take out down the road!

Depends on the status of the restaurant - expect to pay anything from £10 upwards for the bottle, £2.50 and up for the glass.
