Imagine you are in a room with 3 switches. In an adjacent room there are 3 bulbs (all are off at the moment), each switch belongs to one bulb. It is impossible to see from one room to another. How can you find out which switch belongs to which bulb, if you may enter the room with the bulbs only once?

Turn one of the lights on and leave it a few minutes, then turn it off and turn another one on. Go into the room, the one you switched on first will be off but hot, the second one will be lit and the third will be off and cold.

By turning the light on, heat will be created. Out of the three switches turn 2 of them on. Leave Them on for 5-10 min then turn only one of them off. When you go into the room, one light will be on, one light bulb will be hot, the remaining bulb will be cool. There you have it.

ps-nice one Agius , G.M., and Chris! You edited your answers after I solved the problem! I know because no one had solved it at the time I posted my answer!

Switch on one light and leave it on, you then know which switch this is because the light will be on when you enter the room. switch on another for 30 secs then switch off. go into the room and feel the two unlit bulbs
switch 1 already on
switch 2 hot bulb
switch 3 cold bulb

Turn on 1 switch on. go to the door of the other Room but don't enter..see which bulb is on..then do the same thing for the other..then you'll know..you don't even need to go into the room.

With the cunning use of a mirror. Or turn one one, go in and then you know which one that is, but while your in there smash the glass on one of the other two and go back to your room and try the remaining two switches. The power should trip out in your own room when your hit the one connected to the busted bulb, provided its on the same ring circuit!
