Please DO NOT DO THAT! I dont know what your Dr. told you but that cant possibly be true.
Colds are a common illness among young children; they may experience as many as seven to eight colds a year. These are usually a viral infection that can not be treated with antibiotics. There is little that can be done to treat colds except to ease the symptoms with cough medications, acetominephin, and antihistamines. A antibiotic may be prescribed to treat complications, or secondary infections, that may develop from them.
Because colds are so highly contagious, children should be kept home from group settings for the first few days. Treatment, including rest, increasing intake of liquids, and the above listed medications is all that may be required to treat a cold. However , Toddlers and preschool aged children are most susceptible to complications from the cold. these include ear infections, bronchitis, croup, and pneumonia. You should watch your child closely and contact your doctor if any complications should develop or your child does not improve within four to five days. You should also be advised to call the doctor immediately if white spots develop on the throat or tonsils to rule out the possibility of strep throat.

Don't feed your child bleach.
You can add a little bit of bleach to water to use as a disinfectant but the recommended concentration is about 1 or 2 table spoons per gallon. The use of bleach in soup, is dangerous. Bleach is a caustic solution. Not only could you give a chemical burn due to high pH to your son that could be very painful and inflict bodily harm or death, but you expose him to very reactive chlorine which would damage the tissue even further.
I would suggest you find a new doctor and report him to a medical board of some kind.

I'm not a doctor, but that sounds like a damned stupid thing to do to me. The back of my bleach bottle says "Do not drink. If swallowed seek medical advice immediately." Bleach is not for human consumption!
I'd go and see some other doctor if I were you. And report the doctor who gave you that advice to the authorities.
Chicken soup, on the other hand, is good for colds, so just give your son that. Also give him fresh fruit and veg, make sure he's wrapped up warm all the time and gets enough sleep.

DO NOT GIVE YOUR CHILD BLEACH! I have never heard of bleach being used to fight colds. From memory, there are a lot of warnings on bleach bottles about how the contents are not to be swallowed.
If your doctor really said this, I would suggest that you report him to the medical council, or a health complaints tribunal, or whatever you have in your part of the world. I would be afraid that a cup of bleach would kill a five year old, or do serious & permanent damage.

I think we are all in agreement that it would not be a good idea to feed your child any amount of bleach. I would seriously consider finding another doctor and reporting the one you already have. Although, the doctor is right, it will clear up the cold right away because it'll probably kill the poor kid. DON'T DO IT!!!

Read the warning lable on the bleach bottle it will say DO NOT ingest. This product is not designed to be take internally or something equally clear. Heed this warning!!!!
You could seriously harm your child by having him eat bleach even in diluted form, keep him warm and let the cold run its course or go see another doctor.

Yes it will clear the cold because it will kill him. What on earth is this Dr on about. You can't feed bleach to anyone, let alone a 5 yr old child. I just can't get my head around what he is trying to do to your son. How can he even suggest that.
Don't do it! It will make him seriously ill, and a whole cup full! That would kill anyone!

It will be dangerous to give the bleach to your kid, that will destroy his esophagus completely. Some people use a teaspoon of bleach mixed with water to clean vegetables and fruit from bacteria...but really that has been prove that is harmful for your health. I have NEVER EVER heard of a doctor prescribed that to fight colds, unless the doctor's name is Dr. Frankenstein!

Sure it will clear up his cold. When your dead you cant be sick. People drink bleach when they want to kill them selves. To put a cup of bleach, or any bleach in a childs drink, you are killing them. Its common sence, and if your doctor really told you this, I would change doctors, and talk to a lawyer, to see if he told any other families this. But chances are your making this up, and thats just sick and twistid.
