It depends on the airline. With some airlines, the mininum age is 2 weeks, other airlines its older. Call the airline you plan to fly with and ask them.

Your best bet would be to contact your pediatrician. I've seen children travel at 2 months, but it's going to depend on your child's health, which vaccinations he/she has had, if their sinuses & ears are clear and more. Also, it's a pain, and it's more expensive, but just like in a car, the safest way for an infant to travel by plane is in a car seat. They can be strapped right into the airline seats, as long as they have the FAA approval seal on them. You'll need the car seat when you get to your destination anyway, so carry it with you, strap your child in, and you won't have to worry about the airline loosing it while your waiting for your luggage on the other end.

Not sure about minimum age for a baby to travel, however, most airlines allow children under two years to travel free.

I traveled with my daughter when she was 3 weeks old. The only problem we had, was that she could not do anything about the pressure build up in her ears. The best bet is to have them suck on something during take off and landing.

Our son was 5 weeks old for his first flight from Chicago to Orlando.
Then 3 months old for his first trip to AK.
If you have the means, fly first class - you will have more space.

I believe before they learn how to crawl (because that would be annoying) but not too young... maybe around 2-6 months maybe.
