the emu is a rattite, the group of birds that includes relatives such as the tinamou, cassowary, rhea and ostrich. these birds do not fly but rely on speed to escape predators. they run fast and have incredibly powerful kicks that can easy slice open a man's belly. they're wings are far too small to fly. in fact they don't even have the feathers they'd need to fly never mind the wingspan. they're feathers are reduced to the mere filaments meaning they can't be zipped together to make an aerodynamic shape to the bird, instead they act like fur keeping the bird warm.

no emus can fly, their body weight and wing span ratio is so off. its impossible for them to fly. they have very small wings and would never be able to carry its own body weight in flight.
