The Flying Spaghetti Monster is the deity of a parody religion founded in 2005 by Oregon State University physics graduate Bobby Henderson to protest the decision by the Kansas State Board of Education to require the teaching of intelligent design as an alternative to biological evolution. In an open letter on his website, Henderson professes belief in a supernatural Creator that resembles spaghetti and meatballs called the Flying Spaghetti Monster, and calls for "Pastafarianism" to be taught in science classrooms, essentially invoking a reductio ad absurdum argument against the teaching of intelligent design.[1][2] Followers of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) call themselves Pastafarians, a portmanteau of pasta and Rastafarian.

The FSM is a parody religion; it pokes fun at a lot of the arguments people use to try and prove their religions. For example, people say that God must exist because you can't disprove him, but you can't disprove the Flying Spaghetti Monster either. Other people say that God exists but only certain people can perceive him -- you can make that exact same argument for the FSM. Other people say that it's unfair to say that God doesn't exist because no one knows every single detail about the entire universe -- well, that would mean the FSM has the potential to exist somewhere out there, too. It's a demonstration of how weak all those arguments are.

Someone has stolen my idea! I can't believe this! This is MY idea! Someone is out there stealing my thoughts! I swear it!

I always told the kids that if I were 'god' and wanted to send a plate of spaghetti (life) throughout the universe, I would need 4 things - pasta, tomato sauce, meat, and spices, then I'd blow up my plate of spaghetti and eventually, somewhere, all 4 'ingredients' would come together and I'd have my spaghetti. I'm not kidding! I said this for years and years! Somebody's psychic and taking my ideas, B*ST*RDS! Karma, baby, KARMA, that's all I got to say...

oh yeah, and there's such a thing as 'Spaghettification" in astrophysics too! It has to do with black holes - I want my lawyer!

I'm pretty sure it's just something that started on the 'net and took off. It's basically a spoof on religion in general. It's pretty popular for people who are cynical and light-hearted on the topic of religion to worship the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Hey, in my opinion, it's as believable as anything else. Jesus rising from the dead? Alright. Buddha doing nothing but meditating for years under a tree and finding enlightenment? Okay. Flying spaghetti monster? Why not.

Here is the official web site: http://www.venganza.org/

It is a parody religion meant to point out that if you accept things with no evidence, you are going to have to accept all kinds of crazy things. There is just as much evidence for the FSM as there is for Christianity. And all the same arguments that Christians use, can be used for the FSM. It points out how weak their case is.

I think it had to do with some atheist evolutionists trying to use the fallacious argument of straw man (exaggerating an argument so it seems foolish, with out actually refuting the actual argument) by saying if their is a designer of the universe they will call him Flying Spaghetti Monster and worship him
