Believe it or not, cattle prods have been used in training dogs. Thank God trainers found that there are more humane ways to accomplish the same things. Along with cattle prods I saw a lot of "rat shot" fall out of a dogs coat in those days.
Take my word for it dog training has advanced a long ways in the last 50 years. Ever hear the term "hanging a dog" anymore??

Yes that is true, there was a huge stink about him misusing that training method. The irony is that the actual training method isn't at all what the name implies, and is a classic example of how it is rarely the training tool that is cruel and inhumane. That distinction ALWAYS belongs to the person that is misusing it.

I would not recommend it. It would be an extremely cruel thing to do and if your local SPCA found out you would find yourself in court and the animal confiscated.
You would also terrify the dog, which is the opposite of what you should be trying to achieve, you want the dog to be your friend and companion so you should be using kindness and rewards for the dog doing what you ask, but don't punish for disobedience, just withhold the rewards.
Dogs will respond to fair treatment, but they, like anyone else, will hate being mistreated. Most dogs will learn to understand what you ask of them, just say what you want in as few words as possible and show them, and after a few times, they will learn to do as you ask.
There are several sources of information on training dogs, on the internet, in the local public library and from any good pet shop or the SPCA.

How did you come up with that? I am a big believer in electric collars and I use them very frequently in my training, but, I have used them for years and I use tthem as a training tool, not a punishment device. As far as cattle prods go, proper decorum here does not allow me to fully express my self in explaining how I would like to dispose of them and the trainers that use them, but, I can say that I would like the current on when I dispose of them. Oh, by the way, dogs DO NOT want to please anyone, other then their Alpha leader.

I can't believe you are serious. However in case you are that....thick....I will answer you. NO, it would not. Dogs best respond to positive training. You know, that's when the dog does what you request it gets rewarded. You know, praise, treats. If you seriously know so little about training a dog go to a professional trainer for classes. They will teach you.

Why would you want to use it on the dog? I think that you should be locked up and the key thrown away, because there is a big difference between a dog and a cow.

No, it would most likely kill him. Cattle prods have enough juice to make a dog's heart stop or start beating irregularly.

hey sweetbreezebeagles, did'nt a police trainer get into tons of trouble for that several years ago, where he hung his dog by choker on fencing, till it passed out,b'stard
as for using cattle prod on your dog,it would probably make it very afraid of you, making it resort to biting you,or running for its life, poor bugger

Phone the RSPCA, I'm sure they will give you a good answer!
ps. Don't forget to leave them your name and address. With a bit of luck, they may bring one with them to show you how it really should be used.
