Well I wouldn't say people are fooled into ideologue, I would say that they are looking for answers that Science cannot offer or does not offer yet. Science is good for answering questions of how things work but not always good at the why things work.
A good example of this is the fact that when a substance changes from a liquid to a solid the material increases in density.... except one, water. When water freezes (changes from a liquid to a solid) the molecules reorganize themselves almost perfectly so that it is actually less dense than as a liquid. This is how ice floats. What science has not been able to explain is why water does this but no one will argue the fact that if this did not happen then lakes would freeze from the bottom up and life would never exist.

Science is true?
I was taught in school Pluto was a planet. What happened!
I was taught in school matter cannot be created nor destoryed, then along came the positron
When's the big one coming and where will it hit!
Is there or isn't there global warming I just read a news article today about the fact the NE has had no snow in November or December and that fruit trees are blooming. NY has not seen such an occurance since 1877 and SCIENTISTS say this does not mean there is global warming, yet OTHER scientists do say it's a result of global warming and that the ice caps are melting so fast they can't keep up with it.
So, which is it. Come on, SCIENCE is true. It's NOT like religion with different conflicting views. SCIENCE is pure and true, which one is it. Yes or no to global warming.
How about evolution. One camp of Scientists says you came from apes, another says no you developed independantly. Which is true!
What happened to the wonder drug PEnicillin, now part of the time it feeds the bacterium instead of irradicating them.
What happened to psychiatric electro shock, insulin shock therapies and cutting parts of the brain.
Why is Freud now a witch doctor
What happened to Nobel Prizer Winner Linus Paulling's dope them up with lots of Vitimin C.
Dr. Plank says by simply observing something you alter it's nature, so how can you study anything and make truly clean imperical data.
Dr. Heisenberg says you can build 20 A bombs identically and one will not go off because everything has an uncertainty factor
Dr. Plank, I believe, says you can't predict the exact path of an electron from moment to moment.
What will the weather be tomorrow, that should be a simple one. If science is true, how come they get it wrong 1 out of 3 times.
An article I read in the 1960's in Scholastic Magazine showed a sample forecast of the weather in 1980
It will rain tomorrow starting at 2:41 pm and ending at 4:02 pm.
This was the junk they taught me in school and passed off as reality.
I learned we have 9 planets and Pluto is one of them. That is no more. A faction of scientist oppose this and say the criteria sounds like it was written by accountants and lawyers not scientists.
So, if Saturn's core mass turns out to be smaller than Pluto, does it no longer qualify to be a planet?
What about Uranus. If it's tiny with a thick atmosphere is it no longer a planet.
Do Phobos and Demos qualify as moons, I mean they are only 5 and 10 miles in diameter. Aren't they more like orbiting rocks or bolders.

A lot of it is a matter of what's around you when you are young. And whether you are educated or not. Aside from that, it's not so much getting fooled as not questioning - or deciding something makes sense to you.
By the way, communism doesn't belong in this question. Communism is an economic system and is not bad on it's own. The problem with communism is it's usually accompanied by a totalitarian government. Remember the US is a representative democracy with a capitalist or market economy. However, there are many democratic nations with socialist economies. And China isn't a purely communist country - they do have and encourage some free market activity.

Science too has it's own goals, values and ethical standards, it's own 'beliefs' and ideology. Why do people who don't want to appear 'ignorant' or 'stupid' always try to shove their atheism down everyone else's throats? Too afraid someone will think they're a fool? Gosh, how awful! Someone might think I'm stupid if I believe in what the bible teaches!
I think what all these atheists are complaining about is that so many are taught the bible as a literal truth. Frightened into it as small children, if I recall correctly. Can you really blame them?

I have no idea about other religions but science actually proves the Christian Bible to be true. Don't ask me to explain here though because I would hate to choke up the Yahoo servers with the reasons why and I don't have 20 years to type out all the reasons. Try Christianity and you will see for yourself. There are 1000's of Scientists that are also Christians so they must have looked at all the answers.

Humans are tribal. They like to belong to communities. Community makes people feel safe in numbers. The community is reinforced by benefiting members and denigrating (or worse) outsiders (otherwise known as apostates, infidels, etc.)
Communities can be founded on nationalism, religion, and even sports teams. I for one can't stand Ottawa Senators fans and I'm sure they hate me.
Unfortunately, science doesn't provide any sort of likewise satisfactory community. And to be sure, neither does atheism or agnosticism.
Oh, well.

Science is a method of finding out about the world, it is not really a body of facts, it more like a work in progress. Having said that it is the only way in which humans have ever got real knowledge.
Sometimes you just have to accept there is no why.

Politics, religion and science are all different aspects of knowledge within the human mind and have to be addressed separately.
