i went to the dentist yesterday as i had severe pain. he told me a peice of my filling had fell out and was exposing a nerve. he drilled out the rest of the filling and put some paste and a cap thingy over the top and said to make an appointment next week to go back and have it filled. he told me that it would be much more comfortable after - problem is i dont think it is. i think the pain is worse - could the pain be from his just working in my mouth or something more??

Yes it could be because he aggravated the exposed Nerve.......but it also could mean that your Nerve is damaged and dieing and you might need a Root canal done .....if the Pain is not gone by tomorrow go see your Doc. again

Firstly the paste is a dressing. If your nerve is showing and he fills the tooth again next week, that is not going to take the pain away when your treatment is finished. That just happened to me 2 weeks before Christmas and I had to have an extraction. The pain you are experiencing now could be from the treatment but also I think because the nerve is exposed, it could be from that. If it is a back molar and can't be seen when you smile I suggest having it extracted (although it's been weeks since my extraction and I am still in pain), if not then root treatment and a crown is your only option! Sorry!

Hi, I agree with the answer above me. Did you know that you are entitled to a scale and polish ever 3 months because you are pregnant!!! This is because you are more likely to have inflamed and bleeding gums. Get yourself another appointment at the dentist as the staining could just be a build up of tartar and plaque because you haven't been brushing as well as you were. Bleaching is classed as a cosmetic treatment and therefor would not be free with your exemption certificate unfortunately. In the practice I work in we charge £300 for bleaching, which depending on where you live in the UK, is not a lot of money some dentists charge way more than that. Why don't you phone up and enquire about it, it looks great when you are finished. Hope this helps.

Hi, the dentist has aggravated the tooth nerve by the drilling yesterday which is to be expected, if the pain hasn't subsided by tomorrow you should go back to him, if the nerve of the tooth is exposed the correct treatment is to have root treatment carried out on the tooth which should be started asap to help with the pain. See how you go over the next 24 hours if the ibuprofen isn't working try a different painkiller like paracetamol. Good luck!

Unfortunately all dental problems come with pain! Have you called your dentist to see if maybe he would recommend something for the pain. I know Motrin works great. However I'm not a doctor so just give him a call let him know you are still in pain and see what he has to say. He won't know you are in misery if you don't tell him.

Depending on your weight and size you can take six to eight hundred milligrams every six hours. If you are small, one hundred twenty pounds or less I would say take six hundred milligrams every six hours, if you are over one hundred twenty pounds, you can take up to eight hundred milligrams every six hours, however don't take more than eight hundred milligrams. If this does not help call your dentist and get in for an emergency exam it does sound like you need a root canal. At the very least he can prescribe something a little stronger to help get you through until you can have the work done.

I think what he meant by "it would be much more comfortable after" was in terms of after next week when you get it filled again.
Drilling out the rest of the filling would expose more nerves, and I would think a cap resting on the tooth wouldn't help the pain much but rather so it won't get infected or the cavity worsen.

sounds like you have need of a root canal
I have just been to the dentist and I have the same thing as you
Although, even with the injection I still complained of toothache so physcosematic reasons can't be ruled out.
you may be twisting your jaw a little becuase of all the pain you had been in before

you probably need a root canal treatment.
if your on the nhs and not paying for any treatment the dentist probably try not to do it for you becasue they cannot bebothered becasue its long. and cost a lot of money.
i know this becasue i used to work in a dentist and the dentist did not like doing long treatments for people that are ont the free nhs
