Its a spice. Looks like a little wooden star with about 6 points. Smells like aniseed.

It is a spice, mainly used in Asian and middle eastern cooking. It kind of looks woody, and is in the shape of a litle star or flower. It contains little seeds inside the 'arms' and has a beautiful aniseed or liquorice scent.

It's the pod of aniseed used in cooking, confectionary etc. It can look a bit like a star as it has sort of points
