you can use an s-video cable - the dvd player and the monitor both are likely to have an s-video slot. it is round with 4-5 small holes. then you can connect the two using an s-video cable.

That won't be possible unless your monitor supports composite (RCA type) plugs. It's the yellow, red and white combined cable that plugs into the back of your DVD. Only high end monitors would have those connections, so chances are slim.
Best bet is to go buy a cheap TV set.
