Most of us heard of the 21 gun salute, however, it is normally 3 groups of seven soliders each, firing 3 shots. Thats not how it was. Why different?

The traditional Salute is 21 guns. That number comes from adding up the numbers in 1776.

"3 groups of seven soliders each, firing 3 shots" would be a 63 gun salute. It's one group of seven firing three shots. 21 shots.
