she seems to want something (as in food)
but I cant tell what it is. When she adopted me as her human (she was a stray) she had some cheap cat food that afriend let me have to give her and she really liked it but now I cant find it. Twice she came home with what looked like beef jerky but it was flat like it had been laying on the cement (parking lot).

Probably because the cat doesn't like it. I'm not trying to be sarcastic there--cats really do have their own preferences. As a rule of thumb, the stinkier the cat food, the more likely they'll eat it. 9-Lives cat food, especially the tuna flavor, has a stench that can gag a maggot. I have yet to meet a cat that won't eat it!

Try switching brands, or at least flavors. You might have better results.

Since I'm on the subject, here's a little extra tidbit of info. It's really worth it to spend the extra money on high quality cat food. I recommend Eukanuba, which is a dry cat food. It's probably the best you can buy without resorting to a specialty store. You can tell the quality of your cats food by the feces left in the litterbox. Smaller, less frequent bowel movements mean your cat is eating better food (it's an indication that a higher percentage of the food is being digested, as opposed to cheap cat food which consists of mostly undigestable filler.)

I suggest dry food always. She is an out door cat so she is used to hunting and scrounging around but don't worry Dry cat food is best as long as you make suyrre plenty of fresh water is available. Count yourself lucky moist cat food is actually bad for cats. It will make them overweight and have bladder infection issues and hair balls. If she likes the cheap cat food going to A Wal-mart and buy their generic store brand is fine or any Cat chow on the market would be fine also. I have two indoor cats and give them Special food i can only buy at pet stores but this sounds like a stray that comes to you for attention and Food and leaves again so i would go with the cheap cat food unless you decide to take it indoors and keep it there then i would take it to a vet and go with higher cost stuff thats a better diet for them. Good luck to you and your new friend!

hmmmm same reason a human wont eat certain foods? they may not like it or if it something new you are trying and the cat is used to something else cats can be very picky.. if this moist cat food is osmethingyou want to start serving all the time my suggestion would be to mix a little of the new with old, and as time goes by decrease the amount of old catfood and add more new.. eventually the cat should get used to the new kind

Maybe he doesn't like the kind of cat food. Try a different brand of moist cat food. My cat only likes a couple types of moist and dry food! Cats are very very picky animals and would rather die than to eat something it doesn't like.

You just have a picky eater. One of mine will only eat ONE brand, the other will eat anything.

If you plan on keeping this cat, and want to keep it healthy, I recommend going to a pet store and getting a selection of the good quality canned foods. Just get one of each kind, different flavors. Keep trying until he finds one he likes, then stock up on that.

It took me 2 weeks to convert Poppy from dry to canned, so be patient. You will initially waste a bit of money, but it's worth it. Poppy has brightened up considerably since I switched her, she barely sheds and her dandruff is gone.

Don't worry about teeth - dry food doesn't clean cats' teeth, and in fact the ingredients in canned food is better for them.

As for weight, dry food is loaded with carbs, which carnivores don't need. Canned food naturally has less of that type of filler, and the better ones have next to none. This is the way to go if you don't want fatties!

Here's a few articles for you to peruse about switching to canned food.

He/she may just be picky and prefer dry food. My mother has a cat like that. She ignores her food completely while the other cat eats his. I don't think feeding wet food is necessary though... n

honestly your better off feeding your kitty dry cat food, the moist food does nothing to help in tarter control & in all actualty can aid in causing bad dental hygeine...go for a good quality of dry food maybe like Purina One its a bit more expensive but not so much it will break your bank & its WAY better thn the moist stuff & much less stinky too...as to "why" your kitty dosnt like the moist food its probably just a preference in taste cats can be very finicky

That's fine, one should only give canned food as a treat anyway. Just give her a regular dry cat food.

I would just say its the cats preference, I have two cats that will eat it and one that won't. I have one cat that won't eat any treats what so ever. I have one cat that will eat bread lol.

Won't eat when? Always or just today? More detail in question would help.

Did you change brands or flavors? Is the cat sick or in heat?
