I've played waterpolo and swam, and generally i love water, but is the coast guard a good choice?

Is the coast guard as intense as say the marines?

Is it a good choice for females?

the coast guard has many different branches-from ice breaking to rescue swimming. although most of the coast guard don't get deployed to iraq, the work is just as intense in that, saving lives at home is a daily routine. for example, when hurrican katrina hit, it wasn't the marines or even the navy who were called to rescue, it was the uscg. when drug traffickers/human smugglers try to enter u.s. soil, it's usually the cg who board and enter dangerous ships to ensure that no illegal activities are ensuing. most people are under the misconception that the coast guard is an easy breezy service and that's because coasties are not waving around machine guns and killing on foreign soil. what good is a machine gun to a drowning child or to a damaged ship full of desperate fishermen? as far as it being suitable for females....the coast guard is male dominated especially in the world of rescue swimmers (considered the coast guard elite). but just like any job in the world, a woman has to fight her way to the top to prove herself, but don't let that discourage you! if you get through basic training, you will be on your way to doing what you enjoy--the water and service to your fellow americans! good luck and i say go for it! the coast guard is a great choice!!

I wish I would have joined the Coast Guard. The military has become sexless to a degree, it's a good choice for females. No the Coast Guard is not as intense as the Marines but just as important. Go talk to a recruiter and see if it is for you...

The US Coast Guard is good for females like you who loves water. It is better than the Marines because the latter is better for men.

1> the USCG is all way in a state of war as it patrols for drug smugglers and frequently gets in to battles
2> USCG rescue is called on for missions both domestic and in international waters
3> the only service you should consider is the one you feel most comfortable about
S> I suggest you meet with women in any branch you are interested in and ask all the hard questions up front however, find these women on your own and not through a recruiter as anyone they introduce you to will be inclined to tell you things that will influence you to join their specific branch.

Good Luck
