I am usually on the religious site, but I though I would try this one, as this diet thing caught my attention. I am 37 years old, and have had 4 children. I have a athletic background from when I was younger. Up until a couple of weeks ago I was not active and running or any exercise. I ate junk, pizzas, Macas, Lollies, Chips, you name it. I am 5ft 6, and at the end of 2004 I weight a very tiny 51 kg. After I stopped exercising I put on 12 kg within 2 years and weighed 64-65kg Tops.(disgusting)that is the heaviest I have ever been except for being pregnant. Not bad in a way concidering I was not excericing and eating junk everyday. I now weigh 62 kg, which means I have lost 2 kg because I have started running again. And have only been doing it for 2 weeks. I still have a long way to go, as I aim to get to 57 kg. Not bad for 4 kids hey, and I will be 38 in April this year. How long can I run easy until I build up for harder longer runs, as the weight will surley come of then.

At the moment I am only running 40 minutes 3-4 times per week. I want to build it up to 5-6 days per week and run longer. And eventually run longer harder, so I an running for 1 hour at a faster pace. Will the weight come of then? and how long do you think I can start doing fast runs on a green grassy oval, doing 200m fast runs with 200 jog, I know I am not ready yet, as the weight has to come of gradually.

At your weight you ought to be walking and not running.
that isn't an insult, it is just that walking is far more effective at fat burning than running as your heart rate is kept in the 'fat burning zone'

Simple trick is if you cant hold a conversation whilst exercising your are working too hard.
I say this because muscle weighs more and you may get disheartened if the weight stops falling off.

Another thing to remember is that although you are doing reallly well, the first few weeks of a change in diet like this will see you loosed far more than subsequent weeks as all the bloating and crap in your system flushes out with the new good foods you are putting in.

Don't exercise too hard until you are at least at the top end of your ideal weight/bmi.
well done and good luck!!!

AS A GUIDE; I know someone of a similar height and weight that did a 60 min workout three times a week and 20 mins walking everyday.

Bob is right. . running, particularly on a hard surface could seriously compromise your back or knees.
At your size a fairly brisk walk will burn up approx. 500 calories in an hour.
Have a fruit and yohurt breakfast, salad for lunch and a standard evening meal, not junk food, but fish or meat with fresh vegetables.
Cut out alcohol except Saturday and Sunday and then only in moderation.
Walk and hour a day, try walking instead if using the car.
You will lose a kilo a week so should be done for Easter
Good luck,

Having run on and off over may years as a means of weight control I find it is a mental issue rather than the amount of running you have done previously or weight you actually lose.
Obviously it is better to start your first runs gently or you will injure yourself as muscles need to become supple and stretch before extending yourself
