The key thing is patience. An 11 week old puppy doesn't even know it has to go. They don't know how to hold it. I would recommend you kennel him more often, even when you are home. Since dogs don't like to potty where they sleep, it will teach him to hold it. You could also try installing a doggy door. I don't have one myself, but I've heard they are a real godsend. Another option is to place a bell by the dog, some dogs will learn to ring the bell when they need to go outside. I know about stubborn dogs, trust me. I have a basset hound (most stubborn dogs I've ever seen!) and it took me about 8 months to totally housetrain her. She's lucky I love her so much!
Good luck!

throw the newspaper away. you don't want to be reading the sunday paper and go to pick up the comic section and puppy is taking a wiz on it do you? don't waste your money on pee pads. put him in his crate. sounds like you're on the right track although i'd make better use of the crate by placing the pup in it more often. 3 weeks isn't a very long time for him to completely get it either. he's young, not stubborn and it's going to take time. take a deep breath, their like kids, once they know they've got you they're going to work that angle. if you catch him peeing in the house dont' yell just pick him up while he's in the act and take him outside and wait. while you're going through the door say let's go potty. it might take 30 mins or so but he'll go again and praise the heck out of him. wait for him to finish though or he might stop mid stream and run to you and finish inside later. be consistant and eventually it will pay off. never leave puppy where you can't directly watch him. if you're going to go potty yourself, take a shower, do dishes, watch tv, etc etc...and if he's been out recently. within the last 30 mins to an hour. then take him to his kennel. and when you're done, let him out and take him potty outside. some puppies may take up to 6 months or more to be completely housebroken. it just takes time patience and consistancy and love oh and more patience.

The ideal time to take your puppy out to eliminate is when he wakes up and after he eats. For my puppy it's a 100% thing that he must go at those times, it may not be for yours, but it's a good chance. It's okay for him to cry to get your attention to go out when he's in the crate because that's the purpose since dogs don't urinate where they sleep. You should try using puppy pads when your not home because newspaper is just a regular thing in the house which sometimes leaks through and gives him the idea that the house is a place to pee.

I love dogs and some can be very hard to train I have had several and when I first get a puppy I keep it in my sight at all times because the only way to get the point across is to caught them in the act -as soon as you see them starting to go with a firm voice so no and quickly pick them up and take them out, that shows them were not to go and were they are allowed. in just a few weeks they will start going to the door ,it is hard to keep a eye on them at all times but it is only for a short time and well worth it for many years to come, I have had some pups to learn in 1 week and some up to 3 weeks good luck

First of all,a young puppy needs to go out AT LEAST once and hour, not every two or three. They'll forget, and go in the house as soon as the urge hits. It's not that they can't hold it for two or three hours, they just don't know any better at this point. Be consistent when you take him out, take him to the same spot when you go out,and praise him when he goes. Remember that whenever you feed him or give him water,or he wakes up from a nap, take him out immediately, because those innards will function right away! :) I don't let my puppies feet touch the floor,I carry them out LOL so they don't go on the floor. Only reprimand him when you CATCH him going on the floor, otherwise it does no good. And when you DO,say NO! NO! in your biggest big dog voice and take him immediatley outside to his,"spot" and tell him to go poddy. Good luck! Some breeds are hard to housetrain than others! Oh also,if your puppy is food driven, use small treats as a reward right after they go poddy outside. Actually, that is how we trained our pug, because she was horrible. She caught on real quick and was shortly after potty trained.

i've had the same problem so i took him to a potty training meeting. (that sounds dumb, but i was desperate.) most puppies are not able to control their bladders until about 12 weeks, so until then when they have to go, they go. he sleeps in a crate at night, because he will not go where he sleeps. in the morning before i even said "hi" i took him outside, where he went to the restroom, i immediately praised him and gave him a treat. most puppies have to go potty 15-20 minutes after they eat, drink or play, so i kept a close eye on him and took him out soon after he did any of those. when he did go, i praised him and gave him a treat. it took him about a week and a half to learn thats where he needed to go. after which, he walked to the back door and i let him out. now he is trained to go on a pad in the house. of course you're gonna have accidents but dont get mad at him or punish him because then he'll hide from you when he has to go. watching him always, patience and praise were the main components on successfully training my dog.

stubborn puppy huh? we never had this problem but to fix it we will need to access it properly.
1. how big is your puppy? if it is a toy breed it will need to go toilet less than every hour because of its small bladder.
2. where do you want it to go toilet? if outside then stop laying out the news paper and keep a strict eye on him/her when she is in the house. if there is any hint that she will do her thing take her outside and wait till she's done. do this every hour.
3. when you catch her peeing, (do not punish her if she had done it along time ago, dos live in the now and will not understand what is happenng.) immediantly take her outside and ignore her, they realy hate that.
well thats all i can say, even following my advice, there will be afew accidents. i hope this helps you but you didn't realy put up ebough information....
