Only 3% work in farming.

We can live without them.

"While 3 percent of unauthorized workers are employed in agriculture, 33 percent have jobs in service industries and substantial shares can be found in construction and extractive occupations (16%) and in production, installation and repair (17%)."

We dont need them at all.
This is sheer nonsense illegals make up 24 percent of workers in agriculture, 17 percent in cleaning, 14 percent in construction, and 12 percent in food production. So 86 percent of construction workers, for instance, are either legal immigrants or Americans, despite the fact that this is one of the alleged categories of untouchable jobs.

Oddly, the people who warn that without millions of cheap, unskilled illegal aliens, this country would face economic disaster are pro-business libertarians. They believe in the power of the market to handle anything except a slightly tighter labor market for unskilled workers. But the free market would inevitably adjust, with higher wages or technological innovation.

Take agriculture. Phillip Martin, an economist at the University of California, Davis, has demolished the argument that a crackdown on illegals would ruin it, or be a hardship to consumers. Most farming livestock, grains, etc. doesn't heavily rely on hired workers. Only about 20 percent of the farm sector does, chiefly those areas involving fresh fruit and vegetables.

The average "consumer unit" in the U.S. spends $7 a week on fresh fruit and vegetables, less than is spent on alcohol, according to Martin. On a $1 head of lettuce, the farm worker gets about 6 or 7 cents, roughly 1/15th of the retail price. Even a big run-up in the cost of labor can't hit the consumer very hard.

Martin recalls that the end of the bracero guest-worker program in the mid-1960s caused a one-year 40 percent wage increase for the United Farm Workers Union. A similar wage increase for legal farm workers today would work out to about a 10-dollar-a-year increase in the average family's bill for fruit and vegetables. Another thing happened with the end of the bracero program: The processed-tomato industry, which was heavily dependent on guest workers and was supposed to be devastated by their absence, learned how to mechanize and became more productive. Those that realize the true situation don't. We are told they only want the jobs that Americans don't want. That is political BS. They will take those jobs until they can move on. What they want is what everyone wants. . .a better life and a better job and they will do it for less. Why not? They don't have to pay taxes. Also the amount of illegals coming into this country is much larger than stated. There is a solid stream of illegals going north daily. There is also a stream of illegals coming over to pick up their welfare checks and then they go back across the border. They know how to abuse the system here and they do. America cannot keep it up. We are running out of resources.

Oh, is that what the Pew Center calls ILLEGAL ALIENS? Unauthorized Migrants. That's kind of catchy. It makes them sound like they belong here because they just moved north and are just waiting for authorization. Like ducks without a migration license. DO NOT believe a single word that the Pew center says. They have an open border agenda and are masters of lies and deceit. The Pew Centers data is contaminated with falsehoods and exaggerations and it is therefore worthless. This makes your question invalid and impossible to answer.

It is not the Average American, it is the filthy rich in both Democratic and Republican parties that do not want to pay legitimate Americans a fair wage or give them their earned benefits. Illegal Immigrants are under cutting Americans as electrical workers, plumbers and the auto industry has mostly moved wouth of the border already. I know the Auto workers union in Michigan is regretting they allowed the first jobs to leave as a good will jesture in the late 80's and now they are basically shut down and without jobs now.

The other Threat is H-1b that will be on the floor soon that will increase the cap on Illegal Aliens granting them amnesty. This is a bi-partisan effort. This bill will also give them High tech jobs and is being sponsored by Sen John Cornyn - R Texas.

What most out there don't realize is that the illegal Hispanics are changing our culture. Hispanics are now the second largest minority group. In 40 years or less they will be the majority.
You cannot name me one latino country in the Americas that isn't rife with gov. corruption, and poverty. America will become more like them everyday if we don't stop the flow of illegals coming across our borders. We use them for labor, but we don't need them.
