I have a bride (Girlfriend) for 18 months now, and she have decided to forget our relationship because some of our family members didn’t approve it. But at the same time our parent support us 100%, but some of the family members are opposed and the problem is that in our culture we need the approval of at lease 80% of the family but we didn’t have even 35%. And 75% of the family wants her married to her cousin.

Forgetting this story we love each other very very much but we don’t know what to do and how, because we don’t want to go out of our culture and tradition and we need the whole family support.

And other problem is that we didn’t even leave in the same country, she leave in the USA and I leave in AFRICA but came from the same country.

My question is what would I do to make them understand?

Tradition and culture are the things one should respect - they represent one's heritage and identity. But they are not rigid things. They are constantly changing, and getting enriched. Look back and you will find a number of traditional customs are no longer practised in your own society. But it requires moral strength to fight back and keep to your track and do what you feel right. If you have the strength to sustain pressure against you, go ahead and marry her.Be a trend-setter. After all, it is you who is marrying and not your relatives.
It will be very unfortunate to lose a true love for the sake of tradition and culture.

first of all i didn't know that u could marry ur cousin but apperantly u can. anyway if ur other family members really cared about u and her being happy they would put aside their differences and accept that u guys love eachother. i bet it's pretty hard for u guys since u live in different countrys so u should either immagrate to usa or she should come to africa. i hope that things go well with u and that my advice helped.

You can't make people understand sometimes. You just gotta put your tradition aside and follow your heart
