I think most Mormons who practice their faith are great people. The theology, as many already pointed out, can be confusing or difficult to believe.

If you would like to know more about the religion I would suggest the following: Read "The Articles of Faith". These are 13 short paragraphs that detail core beliefs of the Mormon religion. Also, you can always talk with a missionary or member of the church. The official church website is a great source with lots of information too - www.lds.org . Also, you can also attend a worship service at a local meetinghouse. They are held every Sunday and visitors are always welcome. I do suggest going to the proper sources for your answers. If I wanted to know more about the bible, I would be better off reading the bible than sifting through countless commentaries on the bible. If you want to know more about Mormons and their religion, contact the Mormons.

I know quite a bit. I studied it for quite some time. I grew up in Vegas and had many LDS friends yes Vegas has a high LDS community. The book is about the lost tribes of Israel boating to the new world and teaching Indians, Jesus also appeared spent time preaching the gospels. (supposedly the missing years). The community as a whole is very import in Mormonism. I've come to the conclusion it is a masonic order a cult have you. The church has a great deal of influence and authority over your everyday lives. It's very Male oriented and women take a major subservient role. The most outrageous belief is everyman if worthy can become his own God with his own world(s) a kinda equal to the Christian God. I could tell you much more if you have any other questions email me .

I like Mormon people in general.
I don't like the theology, as it has some really weak foundations (Joseph Smith).
I don't like how Mormon use similar/same language as mainstream Christianity but have different meaning and theology behind the words.
I don't like how they claim to be "Christian" when they differ so much on the fundamentals of orthodox Christianity. They don't point out those differences, thus leading to confusion and in some cases, can be misleading and deceptive.

On the good side, it is highly moralistic and creates strong social and familial bonds. They are good, devoted people. It's just a shame that it's not really "Christian" in the traditional sense.

I know two Mormons. They are very nice people. They are open to questions and are respectful. They do like to advertise their church a lot.

Their actual religion confuses me though. I do not thin it is the true religion, but I'm not going to bash it becuase of that. I think Joseph Smith's claim to prophethood is false.

As long as they don't hurt anybody though, what they believe is between them and God, not for me to judge.

Mormons shouldn't be belittled...Every religion has people that take things over board. And are even a little misguided. But they mean well. My mother is Mormon...And she is one of the coolest people I know. I'm Agnostic and she's fine with it. She believes that "Jesus" died on the cross for her sins along with others. It shouldn't matter what religion you are, as long as you believe that there is "one true god" and that "jesus" died on the cross for your sins. What is it with people and mormons...geez! I'm not religious but I find myself standing up for believers more than believers do for eachother...
Can't we all just get along?
Hey...Doesn't it say in the bible not to judge others?

I was always taught that if you don't know, find out. If you cannot say anything good say nothing at all.

I've known a few Mormons and they were really nice people. It's kind of disconcerting to consider that it wasn't until recently that people of color could join the church, and that some renegade Mormons still practice polygamy tho.

They are seriously deluded. On what was basically a challenge from a Mormon arising from discussion in this forum, I set out to read the Book of Mormon, which I had set aside decades ago as drivel. It is still drivel, with an adequate supply of errors, and anybody who actually believes it is nuts.

Well, the mormons believe that Jesus came back and appeared in India.

I asked them "so, does that mean Jesus is coming back again in the 3rd coming??? 2nd coming no longer applies?

I have many religious books in my house, including the book of Mormons.

they are good people who are very spiritual and open to things like meditation, near death experiences and things like that which i respect.

ive studied mesoamerican history and cant find the link between israel and central america as so purported in the book of mormon, which is why i cant accept the religion (incl. other instances such as polygamy and non-acceptance of homosexuals and africans - up until 20 odd years ago).

but hey, my ideal heaven is more close to the mormon one than the traditional christian one, which is well swell
