I am working towards my veterinary assistant certificate and have a test to take. One of the questions in the test, I'm kind of stuck on. It's multiple choice. The question is:

The nervous system that controls respiration is called autonomic because it?

A. is not subject to voluntary control.
B. uses nerves of the body.
C. conducts impulses.
D. deals with the exchange of gases.

I'm think the answer is A, but would like to make sure. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks!

It is A.
Think about the meaning of autonomic. exchange of gases has nothing to do with the word autonomic.
All nerves conduct impulses.
All parts of the nervous system uses nerves.
Motor nerves (non autonomic nerves) are nerves of the body too.

Finally auto means self nomic means regulating.

A for sure. The autonomic nervous system controls things you don't have to think about like breathing, your heart beating etc. This is INvoluntary control. GOod luck

A is the correct choice in that. But the question was set somewhat peculiarly. Respiration can be speedened, slowed, and partially modified by voluntary effort. Take a deep breath please.
