The definition can be accepted only if you believe in re-birth.
Birth and death are only points of entry and exit from this world.
Birth does not mean a beginning and death does not mean an end.
Just as you change clothes in your day to day life similarly the soul which has no beginning and no end changes the earthly body.
As the soul has always continued to exist, what we understand as birth and death are mere illusions.
In other words spiritually speaking there is no real death or real birth for the soul. the soul has always and will forever continue to exist

When we use the word 'Spirit' in Christian sense it refers to of course the Holy Spirit. You know how we are taught to follow Christ foot steps? The spirit that we all have in our shell body is continue being touch by the Holy Spirit that brings us closer to God if we allow him. It is the spirit that beholds who we are and where we are bound in accordance of knowing our Lord Jesus Christ, not by acts or/and works in which some churches preach, but to know our Lord Jesus Christ. We spiritually connects with the son of God.
Our lives are not by any means an illusion of life & death, and it does not holds the truth of spirituality. The illusion is only an act that's false. For ex. Satan can appeare as a holy angel, but it is indeed an illusion of life or spiritually false.
Our spirit is our life that's who we are.

In Vedic language "maya" presents illusion to all living beings.
"Maya" = ma + ya ==> meaning "that which is not".
This world is described as "maya" in Vedic terms, by which the living beings are illusioned.
Our body is also a creation of "maya" , the material energy, of earth, water, fire, air and sky (ether).
Our body is like a machine ("yantra"), when it becomes old and invalid, the spirit soul (living force) gives us this body (a machine) and enters another body through the womb of a mother. The next mother need not necessarilty be a human mother, it can be dog or hog mother or a god mother depending on one's activities in this life.
Just like when the car is moving, a child may say that "car moves by itself", but we know that a car moves because there is driver; but the car appears to move, and can present illusion to a child.
Similarly when our body moves we think that "body is alive"; but body is nothing but flesh, blood and bones, which is a combination of earth , water and air. It is actually the spirit soul which is living inside the body which moves the body. But since we are born in "illusion" we think that "body is alive".
We have seen our bodies grow from childhood to youth to oldage; despite the changes in our body, we can feel that there is no change in our spirit (the living force). There is nothing diminishing in the "soul" despite the changes of the body. That unchangeable part of our body (the soul) is perceived by "consciousness".
Despite all these facts, we, the modern scientific thinkers, don't care about the soul, wihch is eternal & unchangeable in all circumustances.
When the body becomes invalid due to old age, the soul enters the womb of another mother, by the arrangment of the Supreme God, for another tenure of life and death.
So, coming back to the context of this discussion, when there is death, it means that body becomes invalid, just like a car breaks down and impossible to repair it; and the driver or the soul has to take another car or body, by superior arrangement.
Conclusion:
There is no death or birth of spirit soul. Apparently, material nature, presents us an illusion of birth and death; but it is actually the construction & destruction of body (as good as a new building in time becomes old and destroyed). But the owner can change the old house to a new house; similary the soul changes bodies after so called death of the body.

the reality of all creation is still in the spiritual world and has never changed, all we see today is the illusion, that is,the physical manifestation interpreted by our mind or consciousness, real life
is in the spirit not in the flesh, and the real illusion then is death

Your spirit is no illusion
Your life is no illusion
your death is required, and therefore no illusion
Your belief must be illusion.

that statement is contradicting; one cannot be and not be at the same time, but I guess the most reasonable definition is: submersed between the two realms; deviated
