Definitely. It is great for them to learn languages as well as cultures. It helps them to greatly understand the world around them and how diverse everyone is. It also triggers learning processes in the brain which can transpose to other areas of their life. They learn better when young and can learn many languages if exposed at the same time. Any language is good for them to learn but the most easily accessible one for you is the best as they will have more exposure. Lots of Europeans can speak many different languages.

I would teach my kids a second or third language. Kids are like little sponges absorbing everything and they would probably pick up a second language pretty fast if they had direction under a professional teacher. One of my friends has actually bought a language program for her son who is 5. I think that providing your children with the chance to learn a second language could only give them more choices/opportunities in the future.

Definately, teaching your child a second or third language is a great gift to a child, i just wish I could speak another language fluently. You should also start at a very young age, when their mind soaks everything up. My little brother lives in Italy, and speaks Italian but is also learning english, so he is very priviliged.

Yes, if there were a reason to. If I, or another family member spoke a different language fluently, or if the area where I lived had a different language that was commonly accepted. Where I live everybody speaks English, so I have been working with my toddler to learn to sign and read.

Hi Kennye,
I would definitely encourage that. Especially Spanish, which is only second to English, in America. Then maybe Italian, or French as a 3rd. Being multi-lingual is a great asset on a job application too. Who knows how far it can take your children's careers... could make the market wide open for them.
Best of luck! :)

Yes and it is better to start when they are young because it is much easier for them to learn. It is also advantageous for their future due to globalization --- as the challenge goes, the world is multilingual, are you?? There is also the added bonus of being able to speak to your child privately in a roomful of people who can't follow the other language.

I know some Spanish and work on my daughters with it. I will encourage them to learn more in schl. It's not uncommon in India, for example..for them to know 3-4 languages fluently. I could only wish that for my children!

of course, my cousin is Mexican she married an Italian man she's now living in Italy and her son is learning Spanish, English, and Italian all at the same time. She speaks to him in Spanish, her husband speaks to him in Italian and he watches cartoons in English. and they ask him for example bring me your teddy bear in all 3 languages and he does it so they know that he's catching on.
