What day of the week did he call you? If he called you on a weekend, don't call him. If he called you in the week, call him.

It depends on the person you are calling. Many people will say don't call after 9:00, but like you said, you know that this person has called you really late before. If you have good reason to believe that the person will be awake and it won't disturb anyone else in his house, go ahead.

It depends upon the person. Was it ok that you were called at 1:00 a.m.? for some yes; others no; yet others sometimes - there is no RULE. However, there is a matter of consideration and respect for others.
My suggestion is that you call at a more traditional hour (not later than 9:00 p.m.) the first time, and ask the person how late it is ok to call. Then you will know what is and is not ok for that particular person.

Common courtesy to me is if a person is a working individual shouldn't be called after 9 p.m.
That is me, though. Different folks have some different standards and don't care what time they are called. Or what time they call someone else.
Personally, I can't think of anybody that should even attempt to call me at 1:00 in the morning unless they are in jail, or in an accident. Otherwise, wait till it is a reasonable hour to call.

I normally wouldn't call after 11pm. thats just nice, and if the person has kids, no later than 10pm. at my house, tis 230 am and we are still up, some people are night owls.
If he says he stays up late alot, then i wouldn't see why not. Make sure you ask if its ok time to talk and if not, tel him you will call tomorrow, and say by. you respect him and also leave him wondering why you called.
if he asks later, tell him you were thinking of him and just wanted to see how he was doing.

It depends on why you are calling them. If it's a true emergency, any time is alright to call, but if it's just because you are bored, then 9:00 pm should be the latest.

around my house you better be calling me to tell me someone has passed away if you call after 8:30 pm because my hubby is sleeping then due to having to get up early for work, and if you call that late he gets a tad cranky unless i know you're gonna call then i try to get to the phone by the first ring so it wont wake him

Well the house phone may be too late to call, but as for cell phones, I work on a thing called-if their cellphone is on, then they are expecting calls to come in. Otherwise they will switch it off! And besides, he called you at 1am, that is a good enough excuse for you to call him at 11:45pm ;)

it really depends on the person.. if its a teenager who lives at home I wouldnt call after 10 (that is my rule for my daughters friends) college student in own apartment (with or without roommates) I would ask the person if they have a preference.
I usually text message the person first and if they answer right away I know they are awake, if they dont I dont bother them, on my phone the sound for a new text message is ALOT quieter then the ringing

It depends if the person has to get up early or not.I wouldn't want anybody calling me after 11 if I had to be up at six in the morning. But personally I never call anybody after midnight.
