Work, work, work.
Working for 16 hours and then taking a nap on a small bunk that got vacated minutes before (its hot from the other guy).
We are worked like dogs but the chow (food) is really nice. There are no women and so our sexuality turns itself off (for 6 months!).
It is like this everyday. Sometimes the boat gets anchored at "ports of liberty" and we are allowed to go explore the city. Naples, Italy is my favorite stop. The sailors get drunk, get laid, party, and yell all day and night till it is time to go back onboard.
Then hell starts over all again. But we love it. I love my fellow servicemen (they are like brothers).

Most Sailors are stationed on SHIPS. BOATS are vessels that can be lifted by cranes with the exception of submarines. All submarines are boats.
Getting to the question. 99.9% of the sailors in Iraq and Afghanistan are medics.
There are some situations where a sailor may not even see a ship the entire time he/she is enlisted. When aboard a ship, most of the waking day is spent at work, practicing keeping the ship afloat,(drills).
When a sailor is not at sea, he/she is as far from the ship as he/she can be or in a class room learning to advance him or herself.
If you join the Navy, you will be expected to better yourself from the day you walk in until you walk off the final pier.

All sailors don't go to sea. I worked with aircraft and still never got on a ship. It was like a 9-5 job, weekends off (except on "duty" weekends), lived off base near a beach, 30 days paid vacation each year, etc.

The powerful weapon in the entire US Defense Department is the US Navy Attack Submarine Fleet. The US Sailors that patrol the world with numerous nuclear warheads letting the world know if you ever attack the US with a nuclear attack...we can return fire without any form of defense to stop us. Thanks to the US NAVY. SHOW SOME RESPECT!

It depends on the job designation. There are thousands of jobs to be done. When the Navy is in port they are mostly trying to fornicate. You would be too if you spent 6 months at sea.

They sail on boats. Occassionally they can shoot those giant guns on board the boat. That must be awesome.
