I just started a new job about 10 days ago. For the past 4 days, I have been working on a project, and I finally finished it this evening.
Then I tried to sort column AZ in 'Ascending order.' I highlighted Row 1, then clicked 'Data,' then 'Filter', then 'Auto Filter.' Then all the Columns had little arrows on them, then I clicked AZ, the column that I wanted to sort the data by (Ascending order), and it moved ONLY the data in AZ, and to the right of AZ. All of the data to the left of AZ did not move, and therefore does not match up with the data that was sorted. 'Undo' was greyed out, and did not work. What I did was locked my computer at work, rather than log off, hoping that I would still be able to log back in before it gets fully saved. What can I do to undo what I did???

Please be as specific as possible!

Thank you very much.

When was the last time you saved? Hopefully you didn't save the file yet after the sorting saga. If so, save it now to a DIFFERENT FILE NAME, and then do as the first answerer said, reopen the original file. Using the older saved file and your somewhat mucked up file, you should be able to recover a good portion of your work.

There are ways that some professionals can get back your saved spreadsheet. Excel saves copies of your work every once in a while as you are working.

Every person has different skill levels, some know techniques for this, others don't mess with it. If you don't do anything more to the disk, i.e. saving anything or doing any additional work on the machine, it is highly likely that it can be done.

The process is too complicated to explain here. When I do it, I have sevearal different things that I try. Usually, one of them will work, but I can't predict which one will and which won't. It usually takes several hours to do.

Why not just exit your excel spreadsheet and when it aks if you want to save your document, click NO. Then you should be able to open your excel doc without any modifications.

This is why you should always keep a back up copy for cases just like this.

Good Luck!

cheers!
