I mean, did he just know since he was born, or did God tell him sometime later in his life, or did he just figure it out?

Well I mean how did he know he was the son of God? And what he was supposed to do?
Not specifically the name "Jesus". The role of "Jesus".
Not like I don't believe or anything, I'm just wondering.

It was revealed to him by God that he was Jesus and a Prophet unto the children of Israel.

This is how the Quran narrates it in Chapter Mary (19:16-36)

And mention in the Book (the Qur'ân, O Muhammad, the story of) Maryam (Mary), when she withdrew in seclusion from her family to a place facing east{16}.
She placed a screen (to screen herself) from them; then We sent to her Our Ruh [angel Jibrael (Gabriel)], and he appeared before her in the form of a man in all respects{17}.
She said: "Verily! I seek refuge with the Most Beneficent (Allâh) from you, if you do fear Allâh."{18}.
(The angel) said: "I am only a Messenger from your Lord, (to announce) to you the gift of a righteous son."{19}.
She said: "How can I have a son, when no man has touched me, nor am I unchaste?"{20}.
He said: "So (it will be), your Lord said: 'That is easy for Me (Allâh): And (We wish) to appoint him as a sign to mankind and a mercy from Us (Allâh), and it is a matter (already) decreed, (by Allâh).' "{21}.
So she conceived him[], and she withdrew with him to a far place (i.e. Bethlehem valley about 4-6 miles from Jerusalem){22}.
And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a date-palm. She said: "Would that I had died before this, and had been forgotten and out of sight!"{23}.
Then [the babe 'Iesa (Jesus) or Jibrael (Gabriel)] cried unto her from below her, saying: "Grieve not! Your Lord has provided a water stream under you;{24}.
"And shake the trunk of date-palm towards you, it will let fall fresh ripe-dates upon you."{25}.
"So eat and drink and be glad, and if you see any human being, say: 'Verily! I have vowed a fast unto the Most Beneficent (Allâh) so I shall not speak to any human being this day.'"{26}.
Then she brought him (the baby) to her people, carrying him. They said: "O Mary! Indeed you have brought a thing Fariya (an unheard mighty thing){27}.
"O sister (i.e. the like) of Hârûn (Aaron) [not the brother of Mûsa (Moses), but he was another pious man at the time of Maryam (Mary)]! Your father was not a man who used to commit adultery, nor your mother was an unchaste woman."{28}.
Then she pointed to him. They said: "How can we talk to one who is a child in the cradle?[]"{29}.
"He ['Iesa (Jesus)] said: Verily! I am a slave of Allâh, He has given me the Scripture and made me a Prophet"{30}.
"And He has made me blessed wheresoever I be, and has enjoined on me Salât (prayer), and Zakât, as long as I live."{31}.
"And dutiful to my mother, and made me not arrogant, unblest{32}.
"And Salâm (peace) be upon me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the day I shall be raised alive!"{33}.
Such is 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary). (it is) a statement of truth, about which they doubt (or dispute){34}.
It befits not (the Majesty of) Allâh that He should beget a son [this refers to the slander of Christians against Allâh, by saying that 'Iesa (Jesus) is the son of Allâh]. Glorified (and Exalted be He above all that they associate with Him). When He decrees a thing, He only says to it, "Be!" and it is {35}.
['Iesa (Jesus) said]: "And verily Allâh is my Lord and your Lord. So worship Him (Alone). That is the Straight Path. (Allâh's Religion of Islâmic Monotheism which He did ordain for all of His Prophets)."{36}

Jesus learned who he was by the things he suffered in Life. He knew his life had a purpose and he told many people what it was. But he said nothing that the Spirit did not tell him to say; Hebrews 5: 7Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

Jesus spent his whole life learning the Bible because this book told him who he was and what he was suppose to do, just the same is true for you and me. If you knew who you were you would know what you are suppose to do! But really you will do what you were suppose to do, but you maybe just do not know this yet? Ecclesiastes 1:9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

Some accounts of Jesus' life have him talking very young and performing miracles and knowing quite well who he was. The Synoptic Gospels do not say much about the early years, but there are other Gospels, read and loved during the early church that speak of the early years. Without them, it's simply a guess or an academic question.

As a young man growing up, Jesus knew he had a deep feeling for knowing the God of the Jews, Jehovah [ YHWH.]
But it was not until he was ' about thirty' and was baptised by John the baptiser, in the river Jordan, that he was made fully aware of who he was and of his previous heavenly existence.
Proverbs 8; 22-31.
With this knowledge he was able to confidently fulfil his obligations, to both his Father, Jehovah and to mankind.
Did Jesus know the outcome of his ministry?
Yes. (Matthew 26:51-54) But, look! one of those with Jesus reached out his hand and drew his sword and struck the slave of the high priest and took off his ear. 52 Then Jesus said to him: “Return your sword to its place, for all those who take the sword will perish by the sword. 53 Or do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father to supply me at this moment more than twelve legions of angels? 54 In that case, how would the Scriptures be fulfilled that it must take place this way?”

Jesus fulfilled all the prophecies that had been written about the Messiah in the Old Testament.

As the 2nd of the Divine Triunity, of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost... He knew! He knew it at the age of 12 years old what his purpose and mission was. He was waiting for the fulfilling of Prophecy, from the voice of one crying in the wilderness "Prepare ye the way of the Lord." It was John the Baptist who sat the stage in motion.

The Repentance tidings of John the Baptist, (the wilderness prophet / preacher) and his announcement that spread through-out Galilee, like a wild fire on the western plains.

The message reached all, even those in the remotest hill towns,
and the fisher folk by the sea, and in these simple, earnest hearts found its truest response.

I can see Jesus and Joseph’s working in the carpenter shop, when the reports of John the Baptist’s came echoing in. Jesus, recognizing the “voice of one crying in the wilderness” Knowing the time had come.

He turned from His daily toil, saying farewell to his earthly farther and mother, following in the steps of His countrymen who were flocking to the Jordan River, where John the Baptist was baptizing, repentance and confessing sinners….

Those who had believed his message, of one, coming after him, one who was mightier than he, and One, who would come with the Baptism of the Holy Ghost.

Mary and Joseph told him. As a perfect human being, he likely learned a little easier, but he still learned at the same rate as other children, and perhaps even a little slower, as he was longer lived and likely matured slower. Early generations of humans didn't mature to the point where they could have their own children until they were past 100 years of age. If Christ had lived, he may not have been able to have children until he was nearly 200 years of age.

Like all Jewish parents, Mary and Joseph taught Jesus according to Jewish law. They would have also taught him about what his purpose was. At age 12, his brain moved into the next stage of development, like all humans, where what he learned was being sorted and conceptual thought process began to develop.

It was not until he was baptized that he learned completely what and who he was. All the knowledge of his pre-existence was downloaded into his brain. After that, he went into the desert to allow his brain time to sort and store the data. They say he fasted, but that was likely because he slept the whole time. When we are sleeping, the brain sorts and chemically stores what we learned while awake. That is why it is so important to still get proper sleep, even as adults. The lack thereof, may be one of the contributing factors to Alzheimer's disease.

Jesus is not born by flesh and he born by Holy spirit. Even though he lives like a man, He is alpha and omega. He is in Trinity form as he is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Its a very deep doctrine and not to be explained in a single sentence. If u really want to know pls go through Bible, and the Holy spirit will help you to reveal the Secret. Praise the Lord!!!

in case you do not have faith, it is not that difficult. heavily, we Christians are regrettably brainwashed from the get pass. you're born, mothers and dads take you to church, and earlier you may talk, walk, and comprehend you have heard a hundred sermons approximately God and Jesus. Take a step back and look into it from somebody else's eyes. there's no evidence of God, now and back the Bible tells thoughts that by no ability exceeded off, many cases our fellow Christians are in easy terms Christians whilst they sense it truly is appropriate, and Christians have a foul rep with stuffing it down human beings's throats. you may not coach to those that there's a God and Jesus greater suitable than a guy from scripture. The scripture replaced into written via guy in the e book which you will attain is somewhat a stretch. Your faith retains you believing and loving, however the individuals you're concerning have no faith. and that i can not blame them. human beings will ask God to furnish them the numbers to win the lottery. Why? Do you have a job? Did you pass to varsity? regardless of it truly is which you may not have the money for why can not you have the money for it? IS it given which you made undesirable judgements in existence? perhaps it truly is terrific in case you may not have the money for it to coach others that the path you took replaced into not the surprising direction. My very own ideals are that God does not intrude. I refuse to have faith he might enable war if he did. I additionally can not have faith he might enable 1 / 4 of a million human beings to be killed via a tsunami if he believed in combating such issues. It couldnt' have been all those human beings's time to pass. Heaven and Hell, i think of human beings have the incorrect concept. How can i savour somebody's employer without physique? i can not hug them, can not see them, hear them, and so on. So why do i desire to pass to Heaven? i think of it truly is a techniques set which you're in once you die. The satisfaction of understanding which you lived a stable existence.

Well when he was born he was named Jesus. When did he know he was God. When the Holy Spirit descended upon him like a dove God said: "You are my Son."
