There are two key reasons why God let man create religion.
Firstly, when God created man, He gave man free will. 'Free will' means that man will make his own decisions and choices, and bear the consequences thereof. He did not want to make robot-like humans who would be obliged or forced to obey His every command, yet not from the heart.
Because He gave man free will, so man is free to create religions, free to sin or do evil, free to do, think or say whatever he wants, good or bad. However, he has to bear the consequences of these actions, thoughts and words:
e.g.If we choose to believe in Jesus and make Him Lord in our hearts today, the result is: we receive eternal life, now and forevermore. We have our free choice whether to put our trust in Him or to reject Him.
As for the second reason, here goes:
We all heard of counterfeit money, right? Well, why is there a counterfeit? Counterfeit exists because the GENUINE exists.
God exists. He is the Genuine. There is a God-shaped void in every human's heart - it can only be satisfied by a relationship with the one true God. Where no relationship exists, the void causes emptiness in man. Man seeks to fill that void by creating religion. But sadly, that can never fill the void. It may satisfy for a while, but it can never fully or permanently drive away the emptiness.
God knows that the religion that man creates will show up who/what is the genuine. He is the Genuine. The Genuine does not need to be afraid of the counterfeit, because true substance (or quality) lies in Him.

Man created religion, not God. For every different opinion about the essence of God there is a different religion or church. It's like the difference between Christianity, Buddhaism, Islam, Taoism, Judaism, and so forth. Man makes new ones every day, like David Karesh and the Branch Davidians. He claimed HE was God. People get so desperate for answers that many would follow anyone if they promised them a better life. That has nothing to do with God. Your question is a good one, but it's too broad. So I hope I answered it.

God did not let man create religion, religion has been created by different civilizations who believed in higher powers. The Greeks and Romans believed in gods, Indians believed in the powers of nature and other religions were introduced as man traveled throughout the world. There are so many beliefs among us that it's hard to believe in anything anymore. How do you like them apples?

Isn't that a paradox?
If man created God and religion, how can God have a say in the creation of religion?
And if God existed long before man existed, then I have just one answer to your question.
FREE WILL

Religion is a man made word for
1. beliefs and worship: people's beliefs and opinions concerning the existence, nature, and worship of a deity or deities, and divine involvement in the universe and human life
2. system: an institutionalized or personal system of beliefs and practices relating to the divine
3. personal beliefs or values: a set of strongly-held beliefs, values, and attitudes that somebody lives by
4. obsession: an object, practice, cause, or activity that somebody is completely devoted to or obsessed by
Man just worship watever they believed in. Some worship nature, Some worship other gods, some worship Jehovah like Abraham. The intellects and the people who created whatever language call that religion. However, in ancient times they just worship, it was natural for them. They didn't call that religion. They just follow their hearts belief or their culture. So God allowed them to follow their heart's belief. It has nothing to do with religion.
Much much later, when man start to justify themelves under the guise of religion. It was an excuse to murder, rape and to do crimes. "We are fighting for our God", "God told us that she is in sin and must die"...etc(I am sure many of you know what I am talking about here)
Therefore James under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit wrote
"If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world." - James 1:26,27
Thus defining religion for Christians. God allowed man to follow their heart's belief. Man institutionalised it and call it religion.

God didn't WANT man to create religion...he lets man have their own free will...and with that we can do what we please but if we have a personal relationship with him...we should want to do what he wants us to do

A religion is a way of life - though many people do not treat it as so. It was sent to people by God Almighty. At least I know Islam was.

god didn't LET man do anything. man did that on his own. god gave man free will, man is the one who abuses it. god isn't responsible for what you do, you are. when you make a decision, you take responsibility. god doesn't make your decisions for you. he will provide you with the answer, or the path you should take, but you can always refuse it. that is what free will is, the right, and the responsibility, to choose what you do.

God is only truth or life. To belong to a religion {the way I see it} is to agree to there beliefs. To have a belief is to not live in reality or life & truth. God has nothing to do with illusion.
