Has any one achieved heightened awareness or see light in the minds eye, or experienced anything supernatural thro meditation or breath control ?
Do you think yogis and Ninjas really posed supernatural powers but controlling mind and body.

Meditation can take your mind places it can't usually go,especially if you have a good teacher.

Breathing and mind are from the same source. If one is moderated, the other also gets moderated.

So breathing techniques are the immediate but temporary means to calm the mind. But the calmness of the mind can be maintained only by the source and quality of thoughts and when Body, Mind and Intellect actions are in harmony.

Supernatural powers were possed by few. There were evidences. But the intention of yoga is not that and they treat the focus on siddhis (super natural powers) as hindrance to the real Goal of Godhood ie complete satisfaction (Ananda).

Seeing light or any other feeling is just another thought in mind. It is not success of meditation as its purpose it to remain without them and not encourage more dreaming thoughts.

meditation is learned over time. breathing execises may be helpful, but are not needed to achieve a heightened awareness, but willigness is paramount. the yogi take years to achieve their awareness, ninja's are assassins, nothing else. they train for years to perfect their arts, but they are still assassins.

I can personally attest to the calming effect of deep controlled breathing, in through the nose and out through the mouth.
Yet anyone who claims it takes you to some new level of Conscienceness needs to lay off the Bong for awhile.

I tried yoga and meditation 'religiously' for two years in the sheer hope that it would give me peace of mind.

But I was in for a surprise! NO, nothing of that sort ever happened to me in those two years.

Having said that I still believe that it does lead one to a state of "superconsciousness".

My experience with Vipassana which will seem highly unlikely to most is..
I can feel the vibration of 'metta' or compassion as a cool radiance. I can hear it as a high pitched squeal.

Meditating and breathing techniques will help lower your blood pressure. Ask your doctor about it.

That's all a bunch of baloney. You can do all the breathing techniques you want...all you may get is gas and a headache.
